Bottas did a very solid job.

Going to be a huge loss of points for Lewis, with Max likely promoted to P1.

Edit: Ferrari says initial checks are okay, and LEC should be on pole with no gearbox penalty.

I never make predictions, so what the hell, going to go ahead and call it: LEC and VER tangle at some point.

It's actually one of his worst circuits. Only 2 poles in his F1 career although he has had 3 wins. And only one of those wins was from pole.

Hopefully Lewis can do something special today, but given how hard it is to overtake around Monaco I'd be happy if he could just end the day still leading the driver's championship, but I think even that will be a hard task.

I’d imagine it’s got to be try and stay out of trouble at the start, make a place or two if possible but just consolidate and take what is available this weekend. I can’t see any risky overtakes.

If the field stays close together then maybe go as long as possible in the first stint and try to make some places in the pits.

Maybe his job is to try and help Bottas!

Two issues with one root cause.

Car set up. Not listening to the driver enough.
Pit stop strategy. Not lostening to the driver enough.

The engineers will always say the team has more info than the driver. But despite that, my argument is that a balance or weighting must be struck. There should be situations where the driver information has increased weighting against team data.

Today Lewis had bags of life in his tyres. They shouldnt have pitted him so early onto an UNKOWN tyre. We normally see Mercedes learning from other teams playing as the guinea pigs in pitting first on unknown tyres and monitoring the pace increase. Why didn't they do that today? Really off colour of them.

That was a shambolic performance this year. Probably the worst overall performance I can remember from the entire team. And virtually as costly as a double DNF.

It definitely was a colossal screw up on the strategy call, Perez and Vettel are proof enough that going for the overcut was a far better option.

Something like that. I think they were looking to use him to help Bottas against Perez and just didn't think about Gasly and Vettel.

On the rerun I see the wheelgun make a jerk move at the first attempt. Maybe the engineer didn’t have the correct grip or the nit was tighter than expected. On the second attempt, the thread was gone up in smoke.
