Alfa Romeo C38

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Interesting front wing strake placement, they are inboard of the front tires. Most teams have them further towards the endplates.

Did Alfa Romeo set their best time using that strange/outwards angled front wing?

Those are teams with higher outer sections that are trying to force a narrower and higher velocity vortex off the corner, whereas Sauber/Alfa is spilling a much larger chunk into the outboard tyre squirt area, I think, in principle, creating a larger, but softer, vortex that more completely interacts with the tyre wash. The other teams seem, by my reckoning, to be going for something more like the Y250, but this one should I think act more like the macro vortex that most teams use to keep flow attached around the sidepods.

dynamic balance

it's weird how Raikkonen prefers a much simplier switch layout and yet the rookie wants bloody everything there is on his. :D

Each driver has a preference but I imaging once you're more experienced toggling multi-function knobs is more natural (less brain space taken up just driving the car), whereas a rookie might prefer single action buttons.
