Very early in the session but Lewis had a strong lap there. Hopefully he can carry the confidence into qualy
But why is he so much slower in S3? Running more downforce?
I think he is struggling massively in the hairpin, gotta see the telemetry tho

Good FP1, McLaren again probably have 4-5 tenths on everyone but so far it seem we are second force for the weekend.

Don’t think 4-5. 2-3 realistically. Leclerc tasted gravel last push lap in s3. Was a tenth up on his time.

No they lapped on softs but RUS immediately lost the front in T1 and then had a fairly average lap afterwards anyway. He was the first lap followed by LEC and then everyone else.

Fuel loads are unknown as usual.

I think Russell bailed on his soft run towards the end. Solid session from both Charlie and Lewis...strong base. Hopefully they fine tune the single lap pace before quali. But other than Lewis struggling at 14...he seems more comfortable with the car and Charles looks like he can push harder.

As expected, McLaren look unbeatable for the win...

It comes down to Ferrari understanding the set up and getting the drivers confident in the car in terms of fighting for P2/P3. Both of them looked a bit wobbly (then again almost every driver did). Between this and Friday in Melbourne we can see the car isn't bad in some conditions. But can they translate it to the race?

Deg looked extremely high. Did Ferrari do any proper race sims? I didn't see any. I hope they got enough data from this session.

He didn't improve on the first run either, they have really high deg and couldn't make the soft work the entire lap.

Nobody did race sims. Everyone followed exactly the same program, feels like they all agreed on what to do.

They did a bunch of fast laps on mediums in a row up to 9 laps to test 1 lap pace as well as some tire deg to do a quasi-racesim.

Then came out on softs for another couple of fast laps.

Merc did have a lot of deg. Waiting to see how ferrari perform over a quasi race distance in the sprint tomorrow

So did Redbull and I'm pretty sure Ferrari does as well. How Mclaren is handling it's tires is just astonishing.
