Embarrassment for Hamilton? The Reborn Button...

I concur, it was embarrassing for Hamilton that a driver the calibre of Button won as many races as he did with the same car.

Nah, I don't think he's being cheeky. He's just saying that if he'd had a perfect season and Button still beat him then he'd have little to hope for. But since he knows he made mistakes, then there's room to improve. Anyone who's competed at anything knows how big of a mental difference that makes.

Isn´t it funny how Button shines when Hamilton endures the worst year of his career?
And Button arguably his best? (performance wise)

Still managed to win as many races as Button. And out of all the three top teams, he was the closest one to their respective teammate.

And when you consider that everytime Hamilton was not involved in any incidents he finished ahead of Button.

Canada? Hamilton looked like he was running in the dry while everyone was running in the wet.
China? Stellar move into T1.
Turkey? Just like 2010, Hamilton is victorious in battles with his teammate.

Just imagine what he will do when he is not enduring his worst ever year in F1.

I´m tipping Hamilton for the title this year. And that is coming from an Alonso fan.
Still can´t deny him being the fastest driver since Senna.

I personally love the dynamic in Macca, and I think they're the better team for it.
Although I love Lewis, the Senna/Prost comparison is not fair in my view. I recon Button is more like Prost (although Prost in my view was faster over a single lap) than Hamilton is like Senna. Perhaps unsurprisingly as Prost is a quadruple F1 champion and Button just won once.

Hamilton is tremendously talented at car control and driving a quick lap, perhaps moreso than anyone on the grid in 2012. He can string a championship together aswell. But Hamilton also fails frequently at lunges and marginal situations 50%-50% even with drivers of just Massa's calibre.

Senna never ever crashed while overtaking in his entire career (especially not with no#2 drivers, or made stupid lunges (bar 1, but the crash reason was the other driver closing the door, as was their right).

Senna seemed to be wiser and had his victims in overtaking much more under control than Lewis at his age.

One must also not forget the mental capacity differences between drivers. Many engineers of the era admit that Prost and Senna were gifted individuals in terms of intelligence and had very high I.Q.'s.

In that light Hamilton sometimes just reminds me of Jean Alesi, i.e. tremendously exciting to watch but very crash prone. I mean simply driving into a gravel trap during a routine pitstop when the championship was at stake? (2007)? Senna would never to that.

Although I'm no Alonso fan, Fernando has a maturity/wiseness that echos Senna more than does Hamilton. But Alonso is weak in the head when the going gets tough if 2007 is any indication. Senna just dug deeper in himself in '89 when faced with the Prost rivalry.

I just hope Hamilton gets his act together in the next few years as he remains my favourite driver.

Uhhh... Right.

You realise that Senna was famous for putting other drivers in a position where either Senna won, or you crashed.

Also, cough... japan... cough... twice... cough.

I'd advise you to watch more old F1 races to improve your knowledge.

It´s true. And it was not just in F1 he did that.

What, your assertion was that Ayrton Senna never crashed while overtaking, I gave two counter examples, along with a line of text indicating that I could find many many more counter examples if you wanted me to... Given that I've proven your point wrong, I don't really think you're in a position to claim it's be that needs to watch more F1 races

You can laugh all you want but I still think Senna crashed -almost- never when he attempted overtakes (contrary to Hamilton). 90 was deliberate.

But please do as you say and keep busy providing counter examples, I'll check back when you are done.

I'd add the laughing face smiley but there isn't really any point is there?

Stewart raises the issue of Senna having more collisions than all previous WDCs combined.

Slightly off topic, but is Senna the F1 equivalent of Godwin's law?

@Richard: Which Senna ofcourse agreed with :p

Keep at it there is hope at the end of the tunnel ;)

But in anycase the thread is about Hamilton, not Senna, fake moonlandings or Adolf. And Lewis has gotta dig deeper this year I agree.

Hamilton is the best overtaker in the game today.

He overtakes in spots nobody else does. He´s creative like nobody else.
It would be foolish to base your opinion on last year.

How about we base it from GP2 forward?

There are 2 more videos like this, all with different overtakes from Hamilton alone.
If you can, please find the same amount of footage from any other driver in F1 today.

You might say "well he had KERS as help in that second video"

I say: well...was he alone in having KERS that year?
