Well... The constructor’s table doesn’t show “car performance”, but overall result and those aren’t the same... Does the points that Mercedes achieved yesterday show their performance? No they don’t.

Welcome back korzeniow.
The RP was faster in the curves because it carried much more wings. Datas show Renault carried too little df and they might correct that next week.
And this car is still a compromise because its based on the RS.19. So it's about damage limitation in this season... but it's also about aero improvement because its external aero concept is different from its grand sisters, the RS.17, 18 and 19.

That's a huge problem because cars for next year are token limited. Which means most of parts needs to stay same. This car is already now limited in it's development so imagine next year. If Renault is serious about next year making most of it they should bring complete new chassis with new roll cage before end of season. Only reason they didnt do this last winter is they didnt expect Covid situation and they thought this was last year of current regs.

Renault isn’t targeting anything special next year, they have said that in numerous occasions... They will of course fight through the season, but there is no expectations in regards to be fighting at the front... There won’t be a new chassis...

Their focus is clearly on 2022 and beyond.

They could try to put the 2022 PU, which was planned for 2021 (before the Covid), in the RS.20B... It wont be an easy task because of the limited tokens but it's not impossible IMO... obviously it depends on the design of that new PU. It is said to be completely different and, reading between the lines, it has a completely different cooling system and can not work with the current cooling.
So if Renault brings it next year they have to spend their tokens replacing the cooling system... so they must keep the same monocoque and adapt some of the new PU's ancillaries to the 2020 monocoque...

Renault’s Formula 1 engineering director Matt Harman has given an intriguing hint at a new development the team will be trying this weekend in the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix at Silverstone.

“We have some interesting mechanical developments to go on the car in very specific areas,” said Harman in Renault’s preview of the weekend ahead.

“This will allow us to improve our performance and also help our understanding for next year’s car, which is an evolution of the current one.”

Seems interesting.

I am not quite sure why having an 'old' chassis is necessarily a bad thing, though. If it ain't broke, don't fix it...

One could for example argue that one of the reasons of Mercedes' success is maintaining a stable base and using an evolutionary approach. This would make sense, considering aerodynamics is all about details and resources (even for Mercedes) are finite.

Solid gains by Renault so far. If they manage to make a similar step before switching completely to 2022 in the beginning of next year it could be a fun time for Alonso. Ocon looks to be struggling though.

They also brought some "mechanical" upgrades. Anyone knows what it it? Suspension bits maybe?

Daniel said he felt like he had more rear downforce and could get the power down earlier exiting the corners.

That was already the case at the beginning of the season but:
"Ricciardo praised the steps Renault had taken during the break between the two Silverstone races. Although the yellow-black cars showed a strong form already on Friday, over night a new set-up allowed another step forward. The ominous mechanical change on the car allowed new set-ups, which had a positive effect especially in the fast corners. And exactly those were the weaknesses of Renault so far. "The rear is now much more stable in the fast corners. I can now fully drive Copse Corner for the first time," praised Ricciardo."
The exit was already good but now the entry is better too.

Last week, the car was relatively slow in S2. Now they found a big amount of pace in S2 without scarifying S1 or S3 and without putting more rear wing.
