I think they will, but to a smaller degree.
They will want to know exactly how fast they are, and with a lot of sandbagging that is not possible. But it is quite certain, until q2 or q3 they will not be on the limit.
that's not sandbagging. it's the usual engine management of all the race weekends of the last many seasons.
They go really full beans only q2-q3
Engine mode is set in stone for parc ferme when you roll out in Q1. In other words that’s when the engine is full beans.
They still play around with deployment settings and such.

Looks really good for both drivers, they were trading times back and forth the whole session with each other and the Red Bulls then Charles pulls out half a second right at the end.

Watching the onboards, it seems like a very unusual way to do a push lap, a lot weirder than Bahrain. If I'm the team (and not worried about saving the PU), I'd want my drivers to get used with the ways to maximize energy deployment efficiency

Charles went back out on softs, I assume to do a qualifying simulation or something close to it. Lewis was sent back out on mediums and told to do a target lap of 24.5. I think they specifically set him up for the practice start with regards to fuel load and tires.

Leclerc came out of the pits with 24 minutes to go in FP1 on a new set of softs, went through the pitlane a couple of times (one time doing a front wing adjustment and both times doing practice starts) and kept the same set of tyres all the way to the end, without ever going into the box.

Hard to know what the actual program was, but there wasn't a real qualy sim.

What is going on with Leclerc's energy/battery this session? Seems to be some kind of issue? Anyone have the transcript?

Ferrari's definitely not pushing hard, Leclerc basically the same time as in the first practice session.

merc and meclaren did fast lap and went into pits, while ferrari kept going fast lap after fast lap, charles was asked if he wants to sacrifice long run for another pushlap, so i feel like ferrari had more fuel onboard

"Long run" from Russel looked quite good but it is hard to tell as Ferrari did 10 and 13 laps on their hards before the qualy simulation before coming back out on the same hards. Russell's hards had only 5 laps when hopped back on to them.

Piastri's long run didn't seem to good, Antonelli started getting slower, looked like deg, but Russell's didn't seem to have any real drop off at all.
