If Norris manages to pass Max or if Oscar passes Rusell then we might be able to clinch the title today. With a 2-3 and Rusell in 4th we can gain 15 more points than Ferrari. That slow stop gives us the opportunity to do some more laps and get the hard tyre on a delta advantage.
Oscar has to pick up the pace. He must gain time to the Ferraris behind if he wants an easy pit stop. Regarding to your question if you put the tyre later than your opponent you have a younger tyre to attack. On the other hand though you might need to cover some distance.
Whats better? Pitting earlier or later than your opponent?
They shortened the DRS so it looks like track position is better. Undercut looks more powerful than tire delta, which wouldn't be a useful delta anyway. Deg isn't high enough and the stops won't be that far apart.
