Today Yuki ✈️ to Japan and Ricciardo ✈️ to Perth.

.
Strange. Ricciardo said yesterday also on a TV broadcast he was flying today to Australia and the second half of the 3 weeks off
he will be back in Europe.
How about the filming day later this week in Imola? Only Liam because they already made the decision?

I didn’t think the Summer break shutdown starts till August, the test is on July the 31st.

Hmmm, a possible clue?

So the shootout between Lawson and Ricciardo is canceled, and we don't get to know which one is faster after Verstappen and Tsunoda.

Well RBR just confirmed Perez staying at RBR. What a daft decision. Yuki, Dan or Liam could do a better job. Gasly and Albon must feel ripped off for being kicked out for far less. Perez must have dirt on Horner or something its nuts how he is still in that RBR seat after the amount of crash damage and lack of points he has scored this year.

Not sure what happens now with Dan and Liam. Going to be a very interesting summer break.

I wonder if the Carlos Slim money has anything to do with it?

Yeah could be as it's just a completely bizarre decision if you are basing it on performance. Wonder if we will hear anything soon about Dan and Liam given Liam is free to look elsewhere from SEP on right? Not alot of seats left after Sainz signing for Williams.

The filming day is still on:
Christian Horner: 'Filming day' not a shootout between Daniel Ricciardo and Liam Lawson
https://apple.news/AZ6Q8GomFTImDMLUXDH-rTw
This week, Red Bull Racing will see Daniel Ricciardo and Liam Lawson behind the wheel of the 2024 VCARB F1 car at the historic Imola circuit.

Officially described as a "filming day" for content purposes, the test has garnered significant attention amid speculation about the drivers' futures.

Christian Horner, Red Bull's team principal, has sought to downplay the rumours, insisting the event is merely a routine filming day.

"It's a filming day, so they'll be filming. It's all about content," Horner said.
"It is in the current car, because you can do 200 km in the current car. So they'll both be doing plenty of filming."

Despite Horner's assurances, the test has been unofficially dubbed a 'shootout' to determine which driver could potentially replace Sergio Perez for the remainder of the 2024 F1 season.

Perez's recent form has been a cause for concern within the team. The Mexican driver has scored only 28 points in the last eight races, a performance that has jeopardised Red Bull's dominance in the F1 constructors' championship.

This dip in form has led to increasing speculation about his future with the team.
The upcoming test at Imola is therefore seen as a critical moment for both Ricciardo and Lawson.

Ricciardo, a seasoned driver with prior experience at Red Bull, and Lawson, a promising young talent, will both be eager to impress the team and stake their claim for a spot in the main driver lineup.
"I think he's done alright," Horner said when asked about Ricciardo.

"I haven't looked at the race, I only saw the end result that he was 11th [10th after Russell's DSQ], and starting on the soft tire, he's obviously driven a good race."

Sergio Perez will remain Max Verstappen's Red Bull Formula 1 team-mate after the summer break, Motorsport.com understands.

The Mexican's future was one of the topics discussed on Monday in a meeting of the team's management, including team principal Christian Horner and advisor Helmut Marko.

But while there has been no official outcome of its team meeting, Motorsport.com understands Horner has addressed the team's staff at its Milton Keynes factory saying Perez will be in the car when the 2024 season resumes with the Dutch Grand Prix at the end of August.

It not only means that Pérez will keep his seat, but also that Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo will continue to drive for the second team from Faenza. Liam Lawson will therefore remain on the bench for longer, although he is still aiming for a seat for the 2025 season. The New Zealander will be allowed to complete a test day in the 2022 AlphaTauri on Thursday at the Imola circuit, as previously planned, together with Ricciardo and Red Bull junior Ayumu Iwasa. Tsunoda will then have to drive this year's RB car for a filming day according to the initial planning.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It seems they think no driver will do better than Perez and they accept they don't win the WCC.

On Thursday at Imola Ricciardo, Ayumu Iwasa and Liam will drive a 2022 SAT car to see who is quicker?

In Milton Keynes this Monday, there was a meeting between team boss Christian Horner and external advisor Helmut Marko.

Immediately after the Belgian Grand Prix, Sergio Perez boarded a private plane that took him to Guadalajara, Mexico. There in his hometown, Max Verstappen's teammate at Red Bull Racing hopes to unwind in the coming days, after months of speculation about his future at the Austrian racing team. Perez will re-join Red Bull after the summer break - which was decided by team management on Monday - and that must feel like a relief to Perez, although the outside world will wonder why Red Bull is keeping him on?

Red Bull's constructors' title in jeopardy

This makes it more unlikely by the week that Red Bull will be able to hold the - currently still - lead over McLaren until the end, with Max Verstappen almost single-handedly going up against Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.
Undoubtedly, Red Bull has also weighed up whether having Perez gives them the best chance of winning that title, and so the answer to that question has turned out to be 'yes', otherwise Perez would have been replaced.

Possibly a factor in this is the uncertainty that a new driver alongside Verstappen brings anyway.
There were only two candidates if Perez left; Daniel Ricciardo and Liam Lawson. The former is a friend of Horner,
but even the team boss finds it hard to ignore the fact that the Australian is no longer a shadow of the driver he was in the past.
To put it somewhat bluntly, swapping Perez with Ricciardo could just be a waste of time.
.
If Russell wasn't disqualified Perez was now 8th in the WDC!! Now he is 7th still bad.

I wonder for what marketing reasons Red Bull Racing would want/need Yuki in this year's RB car. I would think that the real only reasons are to 1.) Have content ready to go if he does get called up for next year. 2) see how acclimated Yuki can get with the RB20 as well as 3.) possibly identifying differences between the RB20 and VCARB01 that he could use as reference point. If Perez is no longer addressing the media regarding this year, it may mean that contractually he's entitled to stay out the year and RBR can't do anything about it (but also for team morale etc). They may wait until after the season to announce a driver change. Bayer is pointing out that Yuki is learning from Dan, which means he's still got a higher ceiling. With Max as a benchmark, could Yuki also learn from him or just be left confused and frustrated like the rest. I also think that Honda staffs would also put in that extra effort if their Japanese driver was in the top team.

This is so unfair to Lawson, as they are prolonging his decision. If they let him go later in the season, where would he go? There are hardly any seats available anymore! That would mean another season without a seat. I hope Lawson would do as Piastri did and be hijacked by another team.

Its bonkers they are keeping Perez in that RBR seat. They are surely shooting themselves in the foot in more ways than 1. IE possibly losing the WCC and a good young prospect in Lawson in the process. It seems money is king here as apparently they wanted to sack Perez but Liberty intervened and convinced them otherwise. Just baffling really as the RBR employees for a start will be fuming if they lose the bonus from winning the WCC.

Marko hints at more reshuffling of seats coming up at the end of the year.

Even the Verstappens were apparently told on Sunday night a swap would happen. Dan looked happy and all those images with Horner/Mekies/Max etc seemed to point to a done deal on the Sunday before it apparently changed at the Monday meeting.

https://x.com/mereeedithh/status/1818316767720313233

Could it possibly mean a decision about dropping Perez has just been postponed until later in the season or for 2025 as its too difficult at this point with sponsors and money etc. Then they just tell Liam and Dan it will happen at the end of the season. If Liam stays on it would point to that.

So many more twists and turns to come it seems because its madness that someone could be retained on performance driving this badly like Perez has been.

If Liam hasn't been told a definite switch is happening later then he may as well get on the phone to Audi.

I thought the filming day was on Thursday?

Sergio Perez remains Max Verstappen's teammate. Shootout for next year.

Even the Verstappen family was surprised: Before leaving the Belgian Grand Prix, both Red Bull team boss Christian Horner (50) and Red Bull chief advisor Helmut Marko (81) gave them clear statements: "Perez is gone, Max Verstappen will get a new teammate at the first race after the summer break at the home race in Zandvoort."

That was the unanimous message after the Mexican's yet another botched race in Spa, which was considered Perez's last chance to prove himself. Verstappen and Co. were all the more surprised when they learned of the 180-degree turnaround by the Red Bull decision-makers on Monday evening.

Perez (34) is staying after all, they were told after a long meeting at the Red Bull factory in Milton Keynes with team boss Christian Horner, chief advisor Helmut Marko and other influential Red Bull makers.

F1 Insider reached Helmut Marko in Jerez on Tuesday for a statement. The man from Graz was there to take a closer look at potential new Max Verstappens in a so-called "driver search".

Regarding the Red Bull situation, he said: "Perez is staying. We want to get him back to his old form. Ricciardo is staying too. Nothing will change." He did not want to comment further on the background.

In other words: The reshuffle announced after the summer break has been postponed until the end of the year. Everything is still possible for 2025: Perez can stay, but he can also be replaced.

On Wednesday, Red Bull will let Australian Daniel Ricciardo (35) and young New Zealander Liam Lawson (22) get behind the wheel on a so-called film day (200 kilometers are allowed with a current car). The lap times will then be compared and evaluated. Ricciardo told F1 Insider about the test: "There's a lot at stake for me, but I'm in good spirits."

In other words: If he clearly beats Lawson, he could be in pole position to replace Perez at Red Bull for 2025. Lawson has to hold his own: firstly, to recommend himself as a possible successor to Perez. Secondly, to secure a cockpit for 2025.

Horner said the film day was just that
Nothing more. I don't get this head to head stuff. You can't glean much off a filming day anyway.

"Horner made it clear that this is simply VCARB using their second permitted filming day of the season, so “it’s all about content” gathering.

“It’s a filming day, so they’ll be filming,” Horner told media including PlanetF1.com.

“So, it’s all about content.

“It is in a current car because you can do 200 kilometers in the current car, so they will both [Ricciardo and Lawson] be doing plenty of filming"

Update:

Dan driving the Vcarb01 and Liam in the AT03 so certainly no head to head..
