Lets not forget that Rory Burne left his role as chief designer last year. If you ask me he is better than Adrian

Yeah instead of Rory Byrne, Aldo Costa designed the F2005 (that's probably why it was so uncompetitive  ), but for 2006 it's a joint effort between them so hopefully it will be a much more succesful car - And looking at the latest testing results at Vallelunga with the new parts they seem to be doing alright..... So lets hope they are a bit more competitive than in Australia

I think Rory Burne is still on the team but more of a consulting role these days.
Simon: Nils? You can close in now. Nils?
John McClane: [on the guard's phone] Attention! Attention! Nils is dead! I repeat, Nils is dead, ----head. So's his pal, and those four guys from the East German All-Stars, your boys at the bank? They're gonna be a little late.
Simon: [on the phone] John... in the back of the truck you're driving, there's $13 billon dollars worth in gold bullion. I wonder would a deal be out of the question?
John McClane: [on the phone] Yeah, I got a deal for you. Come out from that rock you're hiding under, and I'll drive this truck up your ass.

Actually Aldo Costa had on all the cars in the last 3-4 years similar influence as Rory Byrne (and obviously none of them designed the car alone), the reason he was nominated td in 2005 was mainly to give him a reward for the excellent work he did in the years at Ferrari but in term of practical, every day, job, very little if anything changed compared with previous years.
He was just unlucky that that “public reward” happened the year things didn’t go well, consequently many people wrongly put blame solely on him because identified in that the biggest change at Ferrari from dominant 2004. More important is for example the fact that many people,
mostly unknown to the public, left for other teams ready to pay them lot more.

Think about it, had MS retired at end of 2004 people would have undoubtedly identified that as reason of Ferrari bad season in 2005, now we know that that wouldn’t have been the truth.

The bottomline IMHO is that (although many of you might disagree) F1 is interesting to hundreds of thousands of fans the world over only when Ferrari beats the compition.Period.

A Ferrari/M.Schumacher world champion winning trio is good for the sport itself. It is high time things returned to normalcy.

Just my 2 coins.

Cheers.

wow lightspeed...thats a very one tunneled view of the sport. trust me formula 1 is not about ferrari..if it was it would be called formula ferrari and everyone can go race a ferrari and ferrari can go on winning. Formula 1 has many teams with great heritage and history and different period of dominance..ferrari is merely a part of it.. in my view..i doubth they are gonna be dominent any time soon. cos renault and mclaren are rather far ahead in thier technical abbility at this current moment that i highly doubth any other team can keep up with them. sure ferrari and honda showed good pace..but we see mclaren surging through and renault already there. by the third race we see the story. i honestly do think its gonna be a much wider season, but renault and mclaren will be that lil bit ahead i feel...again. formula1 is not ferrari's sport. they don't own it.
and lightspeed the fans you are talking about, i think its only ferrari fans..;)

I second that, tetopelis. Lightspeed has his rose tinted glasses on!

Yes Schumi and Ferrari won 2000-2004, but they won naff all between 1980-1999, but i didn't here the click of people turning their tv's off due to that. Millions of people watch F1 as it is the pinnicle of four wheel motorsport, not because of Ferrari.

That seems contradicted by the continually decreasing TV viewership numbers that ended in 2005... Hmmm what happened that year? I can't seem to remember...

hahahaha..like it or not " ferrari's lack of pace" is making the sports interesting..hahaha..:P.
but honestly speaking. ferrari is in the exact same period mclaren when through between 2001 till 2005..where they are getting some decisions really worng which is effecting thier pace. Ferrari's is a great team, they won't fall so far back. but they just have themselves to blame and other teams have steped up thier development and went ahead. so its gonna be hard for ferrari to catch up. but they will be around.
again, the sport is not about ferrari and ferrari winning, they are merely a part of Formula 1.

Personally, I believe the Ferrari cars have competitive pace at times. But compared to the present Renault juggernaut, their weaknesses glare out. The team is somehow not as organzed and prepared as in past seasons. They have been making mistakes, not only in things like leaving the brake cooler on, but tire selection and even overall race strategy. And even the drivers have screwed up more than once.
But they are vastly improved over last year, and right now just a shade off the overall pace, and disorganized.
Still a threat, but they have to turn things around immediately, or we will see Renault repeat last year's scenario.
I also strongly believe that any domination for an extended period is poison for the racing, nothing will sour the fans and drive away the sponsors more than dynasties. All major sports work very hard to level the playing field, and change rules in an effort to have stiff competition and different champions. It's for a very good reason.

I would like to see Raikonen take on the scarlet b****.

Although I frankly loath Schumacher, there is a certain 'Gilles Villenurve' attraction to the Ferrari, esspecially with such a great driver as Kimi in one.

Throughout the late 80's and through the 90's, the Ferrari team was a joke. Individually, they had very good people working hard, and a great budget. But it was a case of many individuals each pursuing their own individual agendas, and as a team, results didn't happen. Finally, the people at the top realized they were spending huge amounts of money and not getting a decent return, and totally reorganized the Ferrari racing organization. Three very key outsiders were brought in, and they forged a dynasty. Todt, Braun, and Michael Schumacher. They accomplished what they were hired to do, and transformed a disorganized rabble into an efficient organization that methodically swept aside all competition. But time marches on, and those three are now older, and starting to wind down their involvement in the Ferrari racing organization. Todt is now senior management, and has a lot on his plate. Braun could retire/quit any moment. And Shu, each day the retirement rumors keep getting stronger and more frequent.
Things are slowly unraveling. Rules have changed the environment, other teams have become more competitive and efficient. Ferrari are still a very good team, capable of winning. But the cracks are starting to show, mistakes they never made in the past are starting to happen, and the days of former glory are starting to fade.
That is how racing works. There is an ebb and flow like the tides, where no one dominates forever, and each take turns at winning, and losing.
