Would be great to see teams like Williams and force India on good days pounding round for extra points trying to catch a slow sauber for example. Instead of just sitting in 5-7 place not doing anything other than saving fuel
I think that's the crux of your proposed idea then. You don't like the endurance aspect, so you would rather like to have "sprints". But if that is the main objective, I am sure there are better ways to achieve that kind of racing, i.e. by bringing back refueling, making the tires more durable (so they don't have to be nursed).

But no matter what you do, there is still a fundamental problem when you have the quickest car starting from pole and the slowest one last. This will always lead to a pack of 20 cars distancing themselves from one another throughout the race.

I don't know - with all these ideas being thrown around, I do wonder sometimes how many of you people really like motorsports for what it is. Isn't it a bit like comparing WWF to boxing? If you don't like a better fighter boxing the crap out of a weaker opponent and making it look easy (like a Mercedes driving off in the distance and winning start to finish), maybe WWF is the solution where the objective is to create the best possible entertainment for the viewer no matter how "fake" or artificial it maybe is...
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

I have also had an idea for a split grid qualification that some have spoken about don't actually agree with the idea of having a flipped grid but my best version for exciting racing

Team mates face off wining driver goes into top ten shoot out losing driver goes into bottom ten shoot out

So, just as an example, If Red Bull turn up this year with a monster that is half a second a lap quicker than the rest, We would have Max/Ric starting on pole, and Ric/Max starting 11th ?

So no in race battles between the 2, just 1 of them fighting through to 2nd, and the other taking it easy out front. not sure if i'd like that, people thought the Ham/Ros battles were boring, if they run under your rules, it would have been the death of the sport.

unless I didnt read your rules correct.

I wasn't suggesting it was a good idea. I don't like any concept of a switched grid just felt it would potentially be fun to see

i see. I think the current format is fine, and cant really be improved to be honest. what I would LOVE to see is, at the end of the year, the 20 drivers stay for another week in Abu Dhabi and all get a week of testing and qualy/race the following weekend in Formula 2 cars. All the same cars, just the drivers making the difference.

I think that parts of the suggestion are good, others not so much.

I am in favour of awarding points for all drivers/cars that finish a race. The points structure would have to be altered though. Like 50, 40, 35, 32, 30, 28, or something along those lines, there's probably a math wiz that can make it work.

The advantage of a system like this is that it rewards consistency, today a driver/team that have one good Sunday and the other 20 Sundays as DNFs or dead last will still be ahead of a driver/team that is 11th (and 12th) in every race.

It would also make every position worth fighting for, if say Hamilton has an issue with 5 laps left and drops to 17th, it would still not be a complete loss and back in the garage to save kilometers on the engine. Instead taking the fight to the backmarkers could earn him some extra valuable points.

It would also increase the value of trying to get a damaged car fixed and back out racing.

I am in favour of more points being given to drivers who finish a race. This formula is supposed to be about efficiency and reliability, so reward teams who actually get their car to the end. I think something like 1 (or 0.5) point for being the last to finish the race (not 90% race distance) and each place up the field gets 1 (or 0.5) extra point up until 11th, then a set number of points for the top 10.
