I think that's the crux of your proposed idea then. You don't like the endurance aspect, so you would rather like to have "sprints". But if that is the main objective, I am sure there are better ways to achieve that kind of racing, i.e. by bringing back refueling, making the tires more durable (so they don't have to be nursed).
But no matter what you do, there is still a fundamental problem when you have the quickest car starting from pole and the slowest one last. This will always lead to a pack of 20 cars distancing themselves from one another throughout the race.
I don't know - with all these ideas being thrown around, I do wonder sometimes how many of you people really like motorsports for what it is. Isn't it a bit like comparing WWF to boxing? If you don't like a better fighter boxing the crap out of a weaker opponent and making it look easy (like a Mercedes driving off in the distance and winning start to finish), maybe WWF is the solution where the objective is to create the best possible entertainment for the viewer no matter how "fake" or artificial it maybe is...
