Renault F1 R.S. 20

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Very conservative in the rear. Hope for them to be in the battle for 5° place.

They made the sidepod side walls thinner too. First time Enstone does this in years

And front top wichbone trailing arm is mounted lower on the tub. More anti-dive?

Front nose looks like they're trying to get an early start on the 2021 regs from what I recall. Seems much closer to the y250 panel than Merc for example.

interesting look. i like the all black livery, actually.
since this won't stay, i'd like a full yellow one again for a change.

that said, interesting design change. the nose is even thinner than i have previously imagined.
sidepod shape looks like it's changed quite a lot too. promising changes.

if it's true that the Renault engine is about 'on par' with the Merc engine, and this design is positive,
we might get some surprises from Renault during the season.

Lets hope so.. except they are now racing against last year’s merc which RP have repainted..

In the analysis from The Race it seems the Renault Power Unit sounds very very smooth (it’s similar wether it’s a Renault or a Mclaren). Do someone know why it’s the case ?

What analysis are you referring to ? Anyhow, they probably aren't going 100% on the engine yet so it might change when more aggressive modes are being used. On the other hand it seems like the high pitched whistle is less present in onboard footage.

The written article on the « the race » website. The one in which they give their first impressions after the first day of testing.
