I've done some reading - is the information truly lost - or have the file references just been deleted - does reformating "write" content over existing data - are there programs to recover the information Manchild?

Some experts claim content must be written over or past content encryted to "mask" it - their are even opinions that a hard drive disc must be physically destroyed to prevent recovery.

You're right - all the data can be collected from formatted HDD but I'm not sure about hardware/software it would require and the price of it.

From my experience in the past weeks I looked up in some data recovery shops and the prices are not very cheap. The cheapest recovery I found ran for $350 U.S.

As far as software to perform this operation I'm not sure but probably if you happen to know a good computer geek he might be able to recover the data since the HD has not been phisycally damaged as in my case.

Good thing you taught me how to post links Manchild!

EDIT I was just reading through the testimonials - it not only can recover data from reformated hard disks but also memory sticks, UBS portable drives and cards.

Maybe it can help me find my eyeglasses in the morning  :D

I wonder if it helps recover "powder" from Ferrari's tank.

Manchild - I had hoped that you would recover your files intact - it is not only a personal loss for you - but a loss to f1technical. Your contributions to the site are such an important resource that you have generously shared with us all.
