I wonder if you are listening through your computer speakers. My HTPC runs into my surround system, and the audio sounds VERY good to me.

I don't think that's what it is. My speakers on my laptop play old races encoded in divx very well. Even through my Bose QC2s it sounded like crap. Your stereo might be doing some crazy voodoo to make it sound good? But it might be the video encoder as well.

Another thing, I've never been impressed with anything in the Gran Tourismo series. I think the game itself is not that good, and the fact that the Playstation controller (of any generation) is the worst controller I've ever used.

I'm a pretty big fan of the Gran Turismo series of games, but I have no idea where they came up with that engine sound. It's nothing at all like a Formula 1 engine.

I saw some video of the guy that actually is at the top of the GT game series, and when asked how much time his team tests the cars that are in the game his answer is "Much more than than the original manufacturer does."

If that is the case, I'm sure they were able to take direct sound recordings of the F2007. I mean, SOMEONE had to do the modelling and sound recording. I wouldnt doubt if the sound you hear isnt IDENTICAL, but maybe controlled differently IE: The control characteristics may be linked to some digital telemetry instead of an actual RUNNING engine, thus seperating it a bit from reality simply because a digital representation has no moving parts to give realistic measurments that can be linked to the sound controler.

And about the smootheness... If you have ever had the opportunity to drive GT 1,2,3 or 4, you would realize that the trap involved is tuning thousandths off a lap for HOURS at a time. The lap in the video looks as if someone actually spent alot of time getting the settings/gearing VERY GOOD, and actually put down a good lap. I'm not saying that the time set is amazing or anything, but Im sure the "out-of-the-box" settings werent nearly as good as what is shown.
