Well it all depends....there are a few good testers that have had sucess in F1.....lets look:
- David Coulthard (Williams 93/94)
- Damon Hill (Williams 92/93)
- Mika Hakkinen (Mclaren 1993)
- Luca Badoer (Ferrari for quite a long time....raced for Minardi while tester and Forti not the worse driver)
- JP Montoya (Williams 1997/98 )
- Mark Webber (2000 Benetton)

There are a few that weren't lucky like JC Boulion, Marc Gene, Antonio Pizzonia (unlucky with JAG...not so bad at Williams)....

But if you pay attention there are more sucessfull test drivers then unsucessfull one!

I have no opinion on this. We don't know how good is Davidson because we don't know what condition he drives in during the practise sessions. But if I was Dave Richards, I would have let Button go, get compensation, use Davidson and the money saved from his cheap wages (compared to Button's) and put it all into developing the car.

I am split on this thread, I doubt DC is the man to go for, he has certainly exhausted his potenital and tend sonly to go well on a few weekends a year. Meanwhile Davidson, who is the only driver I would say I know personally is a ggod guy, I didnt see him thirrl in his ascent to F1 testing, but his maturity this year in the third car has impressed and if he can wheel the BAR faster than his race driving team mates even with new tyres shows he is good enough to warrant a race drive. He raced well in his F1 stand in races and knows the team and car, something that caught even JV out. If JB doesnt want to come out to play for BAR next year he would be a good choice.
