Really I just hope there isn't a coming together at the first corner (or at all) should they be side by side.
"That's motor racing". There is nothing stopping either WDC contender (or any of the other drivers) from doing a Kelvin van der Linde into turn one!

Hamilton's pace doesn't look good 🙄
Ladies and Gentlemen, we have the first overreaction of the weekend!
Has he or Bottass even been into the pits yet? If they have I missed it!

He’s not 2/3 of a second faster on tyres two compounds harder.

Well, I mean he *is*, but that’s not going to be a true pace differential.

Much like F2, its very much just getting some laps driven for them. The times are really all over the place.

DiResta having a sly dig at the marshalling in Qatar. You couldn’t make it up…

Well there’s a whole lot stopping Hamilton doing it.

It looks like it is going to be a difficult weekend for McLaren....

From what I've seen the track seems marginally more interesting than Sochi at best, and only just. A dismal circuit. :?

I note di Resta building the circuit up as "Suzuka with walls" but in F2 practice, I didn't see it!
It is a much faster circuit for F1 than F2 though, so there is less time to notice the rather industrial surroundings I guess.

You certainly notice the quality of the F1 drivers (or their superior simulators) with the way they are "on it" straight away compared to the F2 drivers.

Is there? I can't recall the penalties which van der Linde received, but they weren't too significant IIRC. He achieved his objective of eliminating Lawson from contention (twice even!).

Are you referring to the relative points where Verstappen would benefit more from a double DNF? :?:

Max just had a decent moment on the curbs of 22!

Looked like too little downforce. RB seems to test how little wing they can get away with.

Honestly I thought Max would go way faster after moving onto the softs. I guess the difference is fairly small because most of the corners are just high downforce ones rather than anything that requires more mechanical grip from the tyre?

Could it also be how much grip the track is offering? I haven’t heard feedback about it yet
