2022 car comparison thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The cannon exit on the RB is higher and wider, the Merc's is narrower yet perhaps taller because it seems to have straight sides all the way down to the floor. Also apparent is the extra width directly behind the halo on the Merc.

The widest point of the sidepod is near the front of the floor on the Merc, while the RB's is much further back. To me this seems a major detail.

Really interesting sidepod comparison with small and big sidepods:

Red Bull have done a superb job with their gearbox casing as last year.

Comparison between the RB and Alpine sidepods after both have brought upgrades in the last week. Quite a lot of similarity, especially the slabby sides after the undercut ends

Cars haven't had no flex wings in decades.

Notice RB running way less downforce in the front wings comapared to the Merc(and other teams). Also with DRS open, RB lower wing will be almost flat. Explains the high top speed in speedtraps compared to other cars, but I think Aston could spring the biggest suprise. That car is no way the slowest in a straight line. It seems like the RB inner strakes don't go as far back, at least not to the floor edge like the McLaren. RB also the only ones i've seen with that bolide shaped leading edge strake.

Also noted that bolide shape on RB. Strange...

What should be the gains?

I think we are talking a lot about side-pods, but under body seems to be much more important.

Not the most optimal angle but you do get to see the full grid from a top view. You can open in 4K for a little better quality.

Interesting to see the planform shape of the Ferrari powered cars are all similar.
