Renault R29

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

This does not bode well,

Lets hope they have a better showing at Jerez in a weeks time.
That's nothing new with straight line testing. Teams are allowed to do that and make use of it.

The reason there's such a fuzz about Renault's rumored lack of pace is that everybody hated the nose. Now they can say - we knew better than Pat, such uglyness can't work well!
Well, guess what, not every car that won championship was beautiful (e.g. 312T4).

Agree, straight line testing doesn't mean somethings wrong, and most if not all teams do it on a regular basis. Ferrari were scheduled to straight line test in mid January but the weather didn't let up and they were forced to abandon it. Badoer didn't attend the ski resort event they had because of that test.

Pics from Kemble airport seems to rubbish new nose rumors:

nothing new on the car apparently...

Image

difficult to explain the advantage of bringing five whole trucks instead of one... Maybe teams are so much frustrated by cost-cutting measures that they are throwing money out whenever it is allowed...

All pics are from http://www.f1-stream.fr

A (short and useless) video should be viewable from here

If not, you can try clicking on it down this page , but it might be regionaly restricted, I don't know...

Very interesting shot of the underside of the nosecone:

Not quite as hollow as I first thought.

Edit : Fair play to Renault, they kust be the most detailed photos of the new 2009 from any team.

Thats clever, they seem to be emulating a rear splitter style effect! 8)

Agreed, but their approach is so brutal. You'd think there could be a more elegant way to create a diffuser effect in that region without such an abrupt entry angle as shown... perhaps a much lower nose cone leading edge? Is there a regulation for minimum nose cone height?

I think there is, but don't quote me on that. Someone must have put those dimensional regulations somewhere...
I am not amazed by F1 cars in Monaco. I want to see them driving in the A8 highway: Variable radius corners, negative banking, and extreme narrowings that Tilke has never dreamed off. Oh, yes, and "beautiful" weather tops it all.

These images are unbelievably detailed. The resolution is freakin' 3700px wide! RenaultF1, thank you.

I remember a minimum-height regulation as well..

These are the photos for the medias, all of them have that kind of resolution, and this site is a "fan site". Hope they got a high bandwidth

I never seem to find these epic-resolution shots, though. Most sites have the smaller versions - Autoblog the largest with 1280x960, but nothing bigger...
