Vettel is the 2016 WWC, world whiner champion. Add that statistic to his 2014 and 2016 performances.

Yes, against the legendary Alex Yoong, Robert Doornboos, Christian klein and antonio pizzonia. One year where Nick Heidfeld partnered Webber, inspite of racing only 14 races, had better results than him. Two years with DC, he was down in both seasons with DC getting one podium. In 2009, Vettel got 4 poles and 4 wins whereas Webber got 1 pole and 2 wins. In 2010, Vettel got 10 poles and 5 wins, whereas Webber got 5 poles and 4 wins. Let's not even talk about 2011. The worst performance ever by a team mate in a dominating car.

So, tell me how great Vettel's record looks against Webber, the great driver before 2011.
You do realize that Vettel was racing before RBR in Torro Rosso right? Giving Torro Rosso their first win. In the rain at Monza fending of Hamilton. Also he overtook Hamilton that year in Interlagos, in the rain?/
Also concerning the RBR years, if the car was so dominant, then why was Webber not always 2nd in the WDC in comparison with the Mercedes drivers? Because the RBR was not always the fastest car. Vettel outperformed the car...
But Vettel is not perfect. Far from it, he has his ups and downs. And when he gets frustrated, he doesn't go well (2014 frustrated at Renault, tires, etc. - coming from a 4 year spree of WDC, this doesn't make it better). 2016 - a year where Ferrari had made his life miserable with broken reliability and terrible strategy. Also he doesn't look as hungry anymore as the young Vettel. The guy has 4 WDC, would you still be as hungry in that stage?
I think a lot is going with Vettel, future will show us what he is still capable of.

Wolff: "All other drivers have called - including Maldonado. And even some drivers under contract. They all want to drive Mercedes." #AMuS

Wolff: "We have our juniors. But there are other more experienced options. We will look at their contracts & then take a decision." #AMuS

Wolff was just asked, if some more drivers called in the last 30 mins. "Yes, one driver has called." Who was it? "Vitaly Petrov!" #AMuS

One extremely critical advantage that Mercedes set to lose, unless the new driver is going to provide it back, is the fact that both Lewis and Nico drove ONE CAR. There were no special preferences from either driver and they drove whatever was built and Mercedes did not have to scratch their head about car not suiting one driver.

It is going to be very difficult for any driver to come into Mercedes and perform the way Nico has done, unless it is Alonso.

Yes, everyone knows Alonso and Lewis are identical in driving style, feedback, and car set ups.

If I understand the BBC article on Replacing Rosberg, there are 56 chances in 10 one of the drivers they listed will replace Rosberg.
Huh?

Merc were struggling to keep Ham and Ros under control, that tells me that they would prefer a clear 1-2 situation, they could either give Button a call who we know works well with Hamilton but he can be quite slow if the car is not to his liking.
(Which wont be an issue at mercedes.)

They could ask Pascal to drive and give him a clear #2 contract and promise him a #1 drive if he shows skill and listens to them but they don't know that he will be fast enough. (I'm pretty sure Pascal would sign that even with a big fat #2 written on his contract.)

Obviously i would LOVE Alonso in that car, he will be the "hungriest" man you have ever seen but that situation would give fireworks on and off track and i don't think merc will want that.

Maybe they should organise a kart race to see who gets the seat, the guy who finishes right behind Ham but does not overtake him wins.

Not really. The EBD worked really well for Vettel, and Webber could never make that work for him. That explains why they were so close in 2010, no EBD.

Things are not as they seem. Actaully pascal is another big primadonna. And toto said he wont work well with lewis. Pascal was like a Lewis backup.
Doubts persist in the 22-year-old not only because of his lack of experience. "Pascal and Lewis would be an explosive mixture," notes Toto Wolff. "What I would definitely want to avoid would be an Alonso Hamilton scenario like 2007."

MV - Fast in both Quali and Race

SV - Probably the only driver on the grid who can beat LH in Quali and will win all races starting from pole doing those magic first few laps. Will probably start taking only in german to irritate LH

FA - Fast in race but will have to rely on undercut to get ahead which will not happen with Merc Protocol

VB - Unknown, but maybe in the same level as NR
I dont think Vettel has the confidence to go against Lewis. After handily outqualified by ricciardo and raikkonen he knows he is going in as the slower driver.

Ah i did not know that about Pascal, you'd think it would be kind of tough being a primadonna in a manor...

Kimi would be the perfect #2 driver. Just saying...

Then he would have paired Alonso, Vettel, and Hamilton, 10 WDC titles in total :D

He's in F1, man. Think of it that way.

I like Pascal though I'm not really sure why. I think it would be cool to see him get promoted. But then it would also be very cool to see Vettel or Alonso come in.
