+1 seriously!richard_leeds wrote:... and a league table of the most ignored?donskar wrote:PLEASE add an "Ignore" function.
Indeed mx, I'm not willing to go into that request. If you're not interested in a particular post, just skip itmx_tifosi wrote:-1 for the 'ignore' button.
I think it's rude and disrespectful to others. You never know when even the most despised person might make an insightful and interesting comment. I recall witnessing multiple of those occurrences.
I agree. This arrangement would allow a rapid turnover of off-topic and general chat threads without drowning out the slower burning technical threads.Giblet wrote:...Or if the messages on the front page were arranged by category, then technical threads that might not have a lot of chatter and pith very quickly put the active technical topics that seem to go to go on longer but with more intellect, would remain on the front page longer, enticing more users into these threads. This would give the most active topics in categories other than general equal eyeball time, and if anything the front page posts should be skewed towards the technical, at the expense of the non.
Is 'Alonso technical level' a technical thread?Giblet wrote:Or if the messages on the front page were arranged by category, then technical threads that might not have a lot of chatter and pith very quickly put the active technical topics that seem to go to go on longer but with more intellect, would remain on the front page longer, enticing more users into these threads. It is already shown, along with the person who posted the most recent post. That only tells you about 2 people, there could be another handful of posts between first and last that could be gems... or terrible.Giblet wrote:I also would like to know who has created a thread at a glance.
Did I put words in your mouth? My point was that there's a thin line to be crossed to make a technical thread into an arguing match between say Taliban and Bavarian Conceptualists. Who's going to read all that stuff to define and sort the technical threads from non-technical ones?Giblet wrote:I am not saying the Alonso chatter was anything near technical, please don't put words in my mouth.
I will +1 the ignore button. We have it on a few other forums it really helps with trolls they eventually get bored of no one replying to them and leave. Since f1tech does not ban it would be an effective way for members to do it for them.Tomba wrote:Indeed mx, I'm not willing to go into that request. Related to this, I would like to ask for a bit more action on the "report this post" button. Often we get complaints through PM's, but it's far easier for us to handle the reports. When there's an issue, just report it and we'll deal with it. If done well we're not going to need an ignore button
Sorry, I meant on the home page (it was me who posted the idea, for what its worth). Just a little popup box when you pass your cursor over a thread link, showing the full thread title (sometimes too long to see on the home page summary), number of pages in thread, who created it etc.richard_leeds wrote:It is already shown, along with the person who posted the most recent post. Oh the home page. I never go there ... oops. I always go straight to the "new posts page"senna-toleman wrote:
