Right at the start of the 2nd restart?
Yes. Haven’t seen any onboard footage

“I think I picked up a bit of damage in the beginning with Charles, came on the outside. I had huuuge understeer for the first stint. I couldn’t turn the car in any of the corners, that’s why I let George by.”
But this doesn’t explain why he was faster than George in the last 2 stints.
A, the damage I've seen on F1TV. It's a small nick on the ramp-like piece that sits on the outside of the endplate, no structural damage to the endplate. Hard to see a big loss of downforce, the wing is basically completely intact.

B, He wasn't faster overall. The extra pace you have when you overcut (which Lewis did both times) has to be weighed against the time you lost when your teammate undercut. Lewis lost a bunch of time in both pit-stop phases and didn't make all of the time back up during the stint (at least until George reached the back of Piastri/Alonso).

How do you start better than here in Japan? Everyone was happy with the balance and setup was good. Do they need everyone else to miss their flights?

Toto seems in denial to me lool Its slighty amusing him and Russell talking like there generally competitive, obviously i understand its for keeping moral high and give some faith to the fans but you can see the pace lap for lap ffs. If there was a better driver in that second Aston Martin i would be even more clearer. Its a good thing Toto has his feet firmly under the table at Merc because realistically there should be talks about him being fired and i stay by that.

I wonder why Mercedes didn't pit Lewis to take the fastest lap.

I thought and mentioned similar in the discord group. They have 43 second gap to Yuki.

Toto Wolff is starting to sound like the typical over-positivity-spewing humanity-saviour guest on Oprah Winfrey show.

About the only thing Mercedes can be happy with is they basically finished with the same 45+ seconds gap to Max as they did last year. Stunning 3-year incompetence for such a team
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

The regulation has been a disaster. A total write off.

The team is on its knees now, in what looks like, nearly every department. The team are heading for the abyss, and, if not already, are pretty much an irrelevance in F1 now. Needs a massive rebuild, but I fear Toto will stick around, and pray that the engine for 2026 saves his bacon.

All they need now is for Toto to hire vettel to be the driver replacing Lewis and the transition to the midfield will be complete. Everyone else knows that vettel is washed up. He should not be one of your candidates for the seat. But what top driver in their right mind would want that seat now? Yup it will likely be vettel.

Toto previously said teams are missing out on Mick Schumacher so Mick could be a candidate...

They wanted to show off with their zero pod design which was never going to work.

Once again Hamilton has proved that he is the master of 'sniffing it right' when it comes to making career-moves. How long before George Russel gets fed up ? He is driving his heart out, every time he is in the car, guy has no concept of 'taking it easy'.
