The rear wing will definitely be different, it looks like McLaren underestimated how much rear wing they need to balance the car.
"We only had our Melbourne rear wing with us. The produces for Barcelona too little downforce, "regretted McLaren boss Zak Brown.
I'm guessing Barcelona spec rear wing would not have the 'scoop' like the car currently has?
Was this part of the 'rear end stability' problem that autosport kept banging on about?

I don't know what they were banging on about, the team/drivers said it was a bit too much understeer - which is easy to see if you watch the videos through S3.

I very much doubt they do either, probably thought it sounded good so why not say it... a bit like everything they publish

Sainz said on F1TV Pro that there were fixes coming, although he didn't say when.

Nice find! Encouraging pace then, not too far from Redbull on average, although we don’t know fuel

That is interesting. I also wonder how much that would have improved had McLaren used a Barcelona spec rear wing, if that was the case. I would think that with more rear grip the tyres would move less against the track (Slide through corners or spin under accel) and wear at a slightly lower rate, or go faster and wear at the same rate, if the understeer was sorted anyway.

If the s3 testing issues are sorted by Aus then it feels like we might have a chance to push to the head of midfield.

Luckily we are just a couple of days away from having the cars on track and even though FP1 and FP2 are just practice days, we will get a way better feeling on the car performance then... Really looking forward to it and for the team to surprise a few out there and hopefully lead the midfield... If that’s their starting point and without big correlations issues on the car that prevent development, it wouldn’t be surprising to watch the team close the gap to the top 3 through the season.

This year the team has every ingredient needed to start their path towards a Championship... They have a proven engine (probably not the most powerful, but at least the performance it’s competitive), they seem to have fix their correlation issues which allows rapid inseason development, they are getting both Key (in a couple weeks) and Seidl (in a few months)... And they have 2 drivers that even though aren’t at Fernando’s, Lewis or Seb’s level, are both hungry and have proven in the past to be fast (I expect a lot from Norris).

The best thing that the team has done this season is to keep expectations low... Hopefully they will exceed them all through the year!

Question, does anybody know how the race engineers were assigned? Who got Fernando's and who got Stoffel's?
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

IIRC

Sainz got Tom Sallard (Vandoorne's engineer). I believe that the mechanics were the opposite.

I think the point of the data was to use race sims where only pit stops were used between stints. From that you can make a reasonably easy assumption about fuel levels. It's certainly the most thorough summary we've seen so far, and bang on with my own personal feelings about the pecking order.

I think a big upgrade in the pipeline has to do with the bargeboards, not so much the actual bargeboards but the vortex generators on the foot plate. Other teams have them but McLaren does not.

In fact by comparison McLaren's bargeboards are rather barren, although a big improvement over last year, especially in regards to use of surface area.

McLaren had the VG on the foot plate last year, and comparing this and last year's design of this area shows just how much more surface area is available now.
