Rear flaps are going to move too - think that's a visibility thing - certainly from the drivers eye camera the flaps blocked the rear view. Odd that they're retaining the split though...

I feel like exposing the wheels is a backwards step.
and hopefully the gen 3 car will be fast enough to a point where the aero actually matters in terms corning performance not just to lower drag. in anyother series the damage these cars can take before they loose any performace is ridiculous

What I heard is it's partly a visibility thing and partly to stop the bump-overtake tactic.

They've already started the tender for the Gen 3 chassis and the aero targets remain low - drag (CxS) = 0.6m² and downforce (CzS) = 1.5-2m² for reference an F1 car is CxS ~1.15m² and CzS ~5.5m² so the Formula E is around half F1 on drag and about a third of F1 on downforce!

EDIT: If F1 had those numbers they'd typically lap 4.3-5.2s/lap slower but Vmax would be 20-25% faster.

Dissapointing, I didn´t read last replies in this post for several days as I´d not watched first races of 6th season yet... and when I did I come here... those were only rants about FE or FE cars

Not even a single comment about Porsche on the podium on their very first FE race?

First race (only watched that yet): 1- Envision/Audi, 2- Porsche, 3- Mercedes, 4- Nissan. Four different manufacturers in four first places. Hopefully F1 would take FE route, not the other way around #-o

Interesting, where did you get those numbers?

What level of DF do FE cars provide? Any other series with similar numbers for reference?

The formula E numbers are in the tender document, the current and gen 1 cars are/were about the same. They're probably comparable to the speedway kit in Indycar, though I think the Indycar is a little higher on downforce and a little lower on aero drag.

Car // ~CxS (m²) // ~CzS (m²)
Gen 3 FE // 0.6 // 1.5--2.0
Gen 1 FE // 0.8 // 1.7
SSW IR18 // 0.55 // 2.3
DeltaWing // 0.5 // 2.4
Bentley Speed 8 // 0.8 // 3.6
^Some of these are very approximate!

FE gen1 vs gen3 are that similar?

Everybody said gen3 provide a lot more DF :?:

At that level of downforce a 0.1 increase is 5-6% it's a comparatively big % change.
