I think some of the same comments made about Clarke and Fangio could be applied to Schumacher, i.e. in his first career, particularly in the mid to late 90's, he was in a class of one, and could have won the world title as many times as competitive/reliable machinery allowed.

And surely you'd have to say Ascari was in the same class as Fangio? Denis Jenkinson said “In equal cars, Ascari could beat Fangio whenever he wanted”.

Schumaher is for me very meh kind of a driver. He's more about brute power than finesse.

Number 2: Fangio.

I'd say number 1 is pretty obvious at this point.

Mika Häkkinen, the only driver Shumacher was legitimately concerned about every race.

It'll be very insulting if it's anyone other than the one who it obviously is.

Right, I'm pretty sure Damon would just go and punch all of the BBC staff.

I think it would also be impossible for it to be anyone other than the one who it is

"There is a credit card with the Ferrari logo, issued by Santander, which gives the scuderia a % of purchases made with the card...

I would guess that such a serious amount of money would allow them to ignore the constant complains of a car that was nowhere near as bad as their #1 driver tried to sell throughout the season.

Heck, a car on which Massa finishes in the podium or has to lift so that his teammate finishes ahead (As we saw often in the final races of the year) is, by no means, a "bad" car."

we all love BBC F1 guys :-"
The reason Schumacher got the number of title he did was because he had bespoke tyres for a period of time. Bridgestone were making tyres for each race for him. In the 2000-2004 run his tyre advantage helped to at least one if not more titles.

His 1994 title was won on the back of his main title rival team losing its lead driver and he only won by 1 point having crashed in to his rival on purpose. In 1995 he deserved the title on merit.

A great? Yes because you have to be great to win multiple titles even with the help of good equipment. The greatest? No - too many black mark on his report card for that.

Tyre thing - you do have to show real proof of it..
In 1994 it wouldn't have been so close if Schumacher hadn't been banned from two races and disqualified from another two.
