What tanabe san said really confuse me a lot.
When the journalist asked if honda will test some new parts in the test,he said yes.
But when the journalist asked if its a new spec,he said its not something like new spec.

They could be new parts for further reliability or modifications to accommodate aero/chassis developments. If they don't bring the next spec to the track today, then it means it's not ready. No point in bringing an engine you're not 100% sure of, only to loose several hours of valuable track time replacing it. They must be sticking to a strict, rigorous, detailed and probably timed program to ensure it's reliability. It's introduction is more or less an audition for getting the Red Bull deal for 2019.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Given that Canada is ~ after 1 month, the new spec HAS to be already checked, and IN PRODUCTION.
They can test things which didn't make it for the next spec

The key word I saw from Honda was "ideas". They said they were going to try some new ideas with the PU. It's possible they may be trying a completely different Energy solution? So how the battery and the two motors deploy and recover. And with Tanabe saying it isn't so much a new spec PU, it makes me think this even more. It's more or less a strategy change?

That's what I was thinking too. Several months of development do not constitute as 'ideas' in my books, unless of course they are being coy about it and are trying to mislead us.

I sure hope though to see them in low 1:17s today :)

I am not sure that even they are running with new powerful PU we will know this, purely on lap times. As you see there are teams with Mercedes and Ferrari engine that are not even close to the leaders. So, lets wait for Red Bull decision, because only they will know the true PU specs.

Have you looked at the tighter packaged rear of the car?
Damage was to radiator.
Well documented in the engine/General Honda discussion

So many possibilities. They said they had an oil cooler issue on the chassis side. Maybe the new ideas are related to reworked cooling layout?
These new parts Tanabe mentioned they were trying and also TR maybe utilising tighter bodywork, possibly because of the cooling rework. They could be testing for a new cooling structure.

If it is however, a PU performance update, I feel like Honda will sandbag anyway. What's to gain by showing their hand here early.
