McLaren higher on power settings. +11 kph on the main straight to its engine supplier. Available power seems to be close in all other acceleration zones, slightly down on the backstretch, and unlikely to be just a different depl. strategy. Worth around 0.4s. Main weakness: high-speed esses.
Ferrari no ENG 1 setting on Q-sims. Lower power available everywhere bar 7-8 compared to Merc PU cars. A bit in the engine but with the usual deficit to Merc PU. Competitive in corners, but concedes benchmark tag to Mercedes. Main losses are straights and final chicane. Work on balance is required. More consistency is needed.
Mercedes exceptional in S1 esses. No apparent weaknesses. Derating before timing line costs P1. Kimi's lap left out due to data artifact. Comfortable margin at the front.
And the #FP2 data in a better graphical format.
The initial #McLaren surge is evident, with tons of energy squeezed out on exit from the chicane. Mercedes recovers from there and goes super strong even on the climb to Turn 7. Piastri holds up well at the hairpin, but Antonelli is by far the fastest in the back straight and the super clipping zone, as expected. It's not enough for the young Italian Mercedes driver, though, because Piastri pulls away again on exit from the chicane and grabs P1. An interesting battle—the Aussie seems in top form, haven't seen him drive this well in a while; let's see if he confirms it in qualifying to try and fight for the front row, even if in the race it's tough for McLaren to hold the pace.
Ferrari defends well in the hairpin section, but suffers too much over the rest of the track. Top priority at Maranello is finding the balance to challenge McLaren on race pace—on a single hot lap, it doesn't look like an easy matchup.
