that would be seriously awesome if they'd open up that 'angle' above the nosecone to let air flow through for aero benefits 8)
hoping to see extremely diverse designs, sometimes the cars just are too similar like i'm watching superleague formula, A1GP or GP2++ [where the ++ is just some extra HP]

Giorgio Piola has released a video and screenshots of his impression on what the 2014 nose will look like:

You can probably taper off the thin nose section while still keeping the 10cm^2 cross-sectional area. Here's a 10s paint showing the underside and side view just to explain what I mean by tapering off the thin portion.

Do you have to have a 10 cm^2 section all the way?

Can't you have a "pod" sticking out on a keel?

They could be the greatest noses ever, judging from the pictures above, cant wait for January to see the cars.

I'm not sure I can share your optimism.
At all.

Nobody complained about ugly noses pre 2009, it's just the F1 newbies that are worried about the change.

I don't see any reason to push the limits on nose cone design as being suggested in this thread. The front wing and nose designs are moving back towards the pre-2009 config. We may see some narrow noses like the old McLaren's and Renault's, but we probably won't see "cut noses".

Only have to look at some of the pictures in the My favourite worst F1-car! thread to realise that things wont be all that bad in the grand scheme of things

But you are aware of the fundamental Regulation differences between back then and now?
Especially those influencing DF bias Front/Rear.

I would be surprised to see any (competitive) car with a BGP01esque nose next year. You need significant FW to generate vortices and drive the air around the front wheel, so shrinking front wing won't be the best solution and it won't comensate reduced flow to the rear anyway.

I do see cut noses or designs with similar traits at least on some (probably rather top dog) cars and probably also some MP4/18 style noses.
BGP01? Rather not.

Air to the rear to feed what? We don't have blown diffusers, or double deck diffusers, or a beam wing etc.

I agree on the low possibility of seeing BGP-esque noses, however, the subject was PRE-2009 configs, not 2009 configs.

the actual V-shape of the lower part of the wing is not possibile due to the regs, tho

i expect to see some weird ugly nose designs, but some totally unexpected 'innovations' aswell.

Well, feeding air to the other 95% of the car that isn't the front wing would be an idea...

Well i think with the Fact that we don't have blown Diffusers any more it's even more crucial to get as much Air as possible to the rear End to make up for the Exhaust blowing.

So i too think we won't see much BGP Noses.
