Alpine A522

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

If the engine went now, it's actually not that bad. I would have been worse if it occurred in the first race.

There is no link.
They already tell that engine is not reliable yet, so it can break at any race.

Which is not really an issue either, the important thing is to be fast.

@lawrobarretto
Alpine's Barcelona session come to an early end. They did 266 laps without the use of DRS & by running the engine on very low settings. They were limited on certain parts, too, so drivers drove well within themselves to avoid damage. Plenty more to come, then.

Fry said a Major upgrade for Bahrain and another for the race. They also had a floor update for day2 Spain.

I think this fall under Technical ...

Pat Fry, Alpine technical director, said he solved the porpoising problem that occurred on the A522 already on filming day. The Enstone team will be able to work with less fuel in the next tests, looking for performance.

Fry then explained how in Alpine they did to mitigate the effect of porpoising. This was a major advantage for Alpine's test program, although the team lost almost all of the last day due to a hydraulic failure that forced Alonso to stop on track after just doing 18 laps.

"How did we manage to cancel porpoising? It's about finding the correct aerodynamic balance of the car: you don't have to stress the aerodynamics too much. It's not exactly an easy thing: you need a compromise between what you can reach as maximum speed on the straight and what you can achieve. you can get in the fast corners ".

Alpine will now be able to focus on preparing the A522 for the Sakhir tests. Reliability will be needed in the first races of the season, especially after the 5 red flags seen in the first half of Friday. Then, as is always the case in F1, performance will be needed. The transalpines will be able to run with less petrol already in the last tests in Bahrain, because in a few weeks everyone will have to throw off their masks and get serious.

I am an alpine fan boy, but this little article is at least nice to hear. Sounds like quiet confidence to my ears.
