i love alonso and vettel smashing the teammates
I wonder how much time is gained by the soft tyre over the medium? They do look quite quick. It's embarrasing for Mercedes if Aston is genuinely faster on a much smaller spend.
0.4-5s tyre compound gap.

This race tends to be a marginal two stop so it should be fun strategy wise. Safety cars might come into the mix.

I think Aston is now at the budget cap, so their operating budget is probably now the same (albeit Mercedes have the advantage of historic investment in infrastructure).

Alpine with alonso seems to be ahead of the mercs. vettel looks on their pace. I reckon it will be more difficult for george to score another p5 finish this time around unless someone ahead retires.

Great. Remove any hope of watching a fight for the win.

Keep in mind this is a race with potential high attrition with the walls and safety cars... if the Ferrari race-pace was as strong as it was in the long runs in FP2, a potential safety car period or VSC could very much put him back in contention. If not for the win, a good chance of the podium.

More than that hope... this might be Sainz chance to rise and take the fight to the Bulls. Maybe not Pole, but hopefully in the race...

going by the current forecast, it looks like FP3 will be wet. No rain on the forecast for quali anymore, but at 14°C max, not sure it'll really dry out until then.

I think ferrari used either a higher engine mode or less fuel than red bull on their soft tyre laps, as they are clearly gaining meaningful amount of laptime on every non-drs straight. When DRSed red bull with their more efficient flap manages to keep up in the mid phase and then use it to make a gap on top end.

If gaps stay like in this qualifying then I'm certain ferrari have an outright power edge over honda, but we shall see.

It only takes one safety at the appropriate time and he could be anywhere in the top 10.

RB are using old engine on Friday, with low power mode.

If you look at RPMs you'll see Ferrari isn't exactly pushing that engine much. 8th gear rpms which have been pretty equal in Baku, are higher here in Canada for RBR, and the finish line speed tapers down, as well as not using 8th gear at all on the straight to T8 for Ferrari.

Either team is taking this pretty easy on the engine.

The impressive pace of the two front runners in FP-2. Number 16 achieved his impressive pace with a compromised PU specification ahead of an expected change to a new PU for FP-3, Qualifying and the race.

I reckon RB will be taking it easy on the engine this race too. They could give the engine a easier time in Baku knowing they had the race 'won' when Charles retired.

It could be similar this weekend if they know Charles is going to be starting from the back of the grid. I really dont think Sainz will be a major worry for either RB driver.

I wonder how the degradation is on the Honda this year, last year they did make all engines/components last the whole season, IF you exclude the fresh engine that Max took at Silverstone which was written off.
Mess with the Bull - you get the horns.
