0.4-5s tyre compound gap.PlatinumZealot wrote: ↑18 Jun 2022, 00:12I wonder how much time is gained by the soft tyre over the medium? They do look quite quick. It's embarrasing for Mercedes if Aston is genuinely faster on a much smaller spend.

I think Aston is now at the budget cap, so their operating budget is probably now the same (albeit Mercedes have the advantage of historic investment in infrastructure).PlatinumZealot wrote: ↑18 Jun 2022, 00:12I wonder how much time is gained by the soft tyre over the medium? Alpine with alonso seems to be ahead of the mercs. vettel looks on their pace. I reckon it will be more difficult for george to score another p5 finish this time around unless someone ahead retires.
Great. Remove any hope of watching a fight for the win.
Keep in mind this is a race with potential high attrition with the walls and safety cars... if the Ferrari race-pace was as strong as it was in the long runs in FP2, a potential safety car period or VSC could very much put him back in contention. If not for the win, a good chance of the podium.
It only takes one safety at the appropriate time and he could be anywhere in the top 10.
RB are using old engine on Friday, with low power mode.Juzh wrote: ↑18 Jun 2022, 11:15I think ferrari used either a higher engine mode or less fuel than red bull on their soft tyre laps, as they are clearly gaining meaningful amount of laptime on every non-drs straight. When DRSed red bull with their more efficient flap manages to keep up in the mid phase and then use it to make a gap on top end.

If gaps stay like in this qualifying then I'm certain ferrari have an outright power edge over honda, but we shall see.
If you look at RPMs you'll see Ferrari isn't exactly pushing that engine much. 8th gear rpms which have been pretty equal in Baku, are higher here in Canada for RBR, and the finish line speed tapers down, as well as not using 8th gear at all on the straight to T8 for Ferrari.Juzh wrote:I think ferrari used either a higher engine mode or less fuel than red bull on their soft tyre laps, as they are clearly gaining meaningful amount of laptime on every non-drs straight.
