It's obvious that Mercedes has a MUCH better hybrid system. Their deployment is seriously advanced compared to the rest of the grid. Almost like they are in Year 2, while the others figure it out.

If Toto spotted the FE advantage, then fair play.

They don't sacrifice as much acceleration when harvesting. Conversely, they can harvest at a higher rate for the same acceleration. Remember that all the energy comes from the crankshaft.

The way the energy is deployed has already converged quite dramatically in the first two races. They certainly have more freedom in that respect due to the power advantage.

Horsepower makes a bigger difference at higher speeds / RPM. So really, it's that Mercedes needs less energy to reach similar top speeds, so they effectively have more available energy to deploy around the rest of the lap.

Until this wing actually debuts, I don't see what Ferrari can do to bridge the gap to Mercedes. Japan will be similar to Melbourne. The Mercedes is just too efficient.

Exactly, the cars havent changed since Australia so the Miami upgrade will be their first chance, then there is another long break until Canada, and then Monaco where the new compression ratio tests come into play but for now its the same as the previous two races which is the race for P3.

A bit worried at the lack of balance improvement between FP 1 and 2. In FP 1 they were complaining, in FP 2 it seemed to get even worse, Hamilton even said he had no confidence in the car.

Looks like the only chance, jump them at the start and hope you can somehow hold them off, but, the pace looks very poor around here, not good.

What it looks like in terms of fastest laps seen in FP has never meant much
In this new era, especially at the start of it, it means even less than that. Heck in this new era even qualifying only counts for so much.

I think Ferrari has McLaren covered for the time being. They might lose out in quali, but McLaren’s race pace didn’t seem good enough to beat Ferrari.

They do need to work hard for Miami though, so they dont get outdeveloped.

If you think about it he’s basically got the opposite experience of Hamilton during his F1 career… been driving tractors for most of it while Hamilton drove top tier race cars for ~80% of his
