McLaren MCL36 Speculation Thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The nose looks slimmer than the FOM model, hopefully it isn’t a livery launch.

Has any report come out on the car launch being the Stock show car or one that has some genuine McLaren design?

Quite the opposite, I would say! in the photo, it looks like the F1 2022 show car, and they are branding the event as a "Team Launch", not a car launch :|
On all FOM show cars, there is no front wing flap, it always starts with the nose.

looks like a mix of stock. The nose looks like the earlier stock car, but the aero winglets around the top shoulder of the tyre, look like the old aero test model, it is straight and narrow:

The wheel rods look like the same configuration too

with the show wing below. the break duct aero pieces on the newer models cover a lot more of the inside face of the wheel than the original aero test model

the picture above is a 3D rendering, so they didn't need a "real" FOM show car. we don't even know if they will even have a real car in this "team presentation"

The 3D model is this one:

the picture on the McLaren page has pushrod suspension. The car is believed to have a pullrod configuration.

I'd be surprised if they don't show a real car.

1. leak on Reddit said McLaren didn't buy the FIA show car (unlike Red Bull, Mercedes, Aston Martin, ...). It was vetted so if they show a fake car, it's one they had to manufacture.
2. Ivan Roldan said we'll be gobsmacked - him being an aerodynamicist I feel he wouldn't say that if it was just marketing fluff with a livery reveal.

It's called a Team Launch because it launches the 4 teams.
1. McLaren F1 and probably MCL36
2. McLaren IndyCar - livery on an spec IndyCar
3. McLaren Extreme E - livery on a spec Extreme E car - livery was shown already
4. McLaren esports - probably just show off the drivers for a minute or two.

Yeah he seems to infer that we will see something worth talking about. I hope so! :D

I don't think this is the livery, it's a CAD drawing where different sections are colored for better representation.

They aren't going to all this launch day effort to show us the car in the promotional material!! It will just be generic renders provided to the marketing department.

Not that long to wait now.

Seven more hours. Feels like an eternity.
