A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.
This car is very strange, tiny sidepod inlets, vertical rads, winglets above sidepods, nice undercut but incredibly wide at the rear in stark contrast to the RBR philosophy of as much floor visible as possible.
They've always produced exciting cars so lets hope this one is fast as well.

I think it looks wider at the rear because they are trying to use air coming over the sidepods as much as air coming around them from the splitter. That's why they are lower than usual and slope downward even though that shape in isolation will produce lift. It makes using the Coanda effect to lower the exhaust stream easier too.
Probably explains (partly) why they added this sidepod winglet, the air that winglet interacts with is more important for the beam wing and maybe diffuser than if the car had 'common' sidepods.
I believe that widening of the plume is what RB are trying to avoid with their new tunnel. The tunnel takes the air coming from sidepods, protecting the exhaust on it´s way wherever it´s going.
