Did you watch quali? Merc were putting in 1.11.7s in Q2, 2-3 tenths faster than eventual pole time and Russell got pole on used tyres. If anything the Mercs underperformed in Q3 on their new tyres and apart from that it shook out as we should've expected if the Merc was fastest
What other conclusion should we make if the Merc is fastest in fp3, Q1, Q2 and gets pole on used tyres?
But it does look like Merc are running less downforce. Could be costly with high degradation and rain possible
What I saw was a resurfaced track, smooth as they come, flattened curbs and an RB20 with the same mid-load wing level it couldn't run in Imola
The car is capable of generating tyre heat in all conditions, as we saw in Suzuka and Shanghai previously. I guess the time lost in FP2 played a role with Max' confidence and pace...
