Hamilton BTW is looking ominous. It may not even matter if Merc is good on HS, might as well put US on for pole!
It seems that Mercedes doesn't like the HS tyres
IMO it wont matter, if they can qualify on the US in Q2, they may only need the HS for the best lap in Q3 and not run it in the race at all. Though of course that means they may not get pole if they cant get the performance they need from the HS.
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

I don't even think Hamilton needs pole, it's easy enough to overtake on this track - his race pace looks more then good enough

Yeah HS is only important for grid position. But I think Ham is OK with HS. It's Bottas who's struggling a lot (not only with HS on)

Ferrari is struggling to make the tyres work at the beginning of the lap, a radio message told Vettel to improve his out lap in order to get the tyres work in the appropiate temperature window.

The lack of HS running might be worse for Merc than having to use the old engine

Great catch. I heard the radio but I didn't quite get what was about exactly.

Maybe, but then again they're not going to race this tire.

Only two flying laps on HS all weekend and Hamilton is right on it.

Exactly. I am predicting top 3 in QF for Mercedes, but think they can still win the race. They may also be faster on the US than their rival teams, so who knows if all of them can afford to run Ultras in Q2....

The gap to the midfield however is maybe just too big, to not allow the top teams to run the harder tire in Q2.

Hamilton is not desperate for pole, he can handle as much as third in Q.
But to be honest, he put a stunning lap (as I said earlier, most probably he's not pushing in S3) on HS as well, so I think he'll snatch pole.

Totally agree with the second one.

So even without an engine upgrade Mercedes are right in it for pole.

France maybe a right bundle of laughs.

If Mercedes can achieve the pole, and then be faster with harder tyres here in Canada where Ferrari has an updated PU which should give more power and MORE importantly a better fuel consumption, I will beging to feel quite pessimistic about the season.

ZB says Alonso was struggling with oversteer on exit in FP3 (Sky interview). I thought Mclaren was setting up for race pace.
Always find the gap then use it.
