Puma was brought in by Schumacher. They are a long time personal sponsor of Schumacher.
Reebok will displace Puma I guess and will likely provide the team gear as well.

Depends on what part of the driver attire is sponsored by Puma. For example if sponsorship in only for the race suit, Hamilton might be allowed to wear Reebok shoes, or Reebok gloves, Reebok hat etc.

Similar situations have happened in other sports like Football and track and field.

is not the same .....because both of them (Messi and Gay) plays in their team equipment but here in F1 team equipment means gloves shoes hats everything!! But maybe Reebok will replace Puma if they come with cash  but in performance puma is way over reebok or others.

That's what I said. Reebok will displace Puma.
Puma is Michael Schumacher's sponsor. He brought them in when he was at Ferrari. They stayed at Ferrari after he left because of the Schumacher merchandising.
With the early announcement of the Hamilton deal it is likely so that Puma can withdraw their merchandise by the time Lewis brings his personal sponsors to the Mercedes.

how does all this movement affect McLaren? well in a another forum there is discussion that the Perez move is due to Vodafone wanting to quit F1. Carlos Slim's Telecommunications Corporation is likely the new sponsor and they want their lad in the car. Time will tell how much truth there is in this but already one element of the move has happened i.e. Perez to McLaren.

So it's very likely that Hamilton's move to Mercede's had little to do with what was printed in the press and more to do with McLaren needing a new title Sponsor and a seat being needed for that sponsors preferred driver.
Which sort of throws another spin on the hole musical chairs with Hamilton displacing Schumacher and Perez actually displacing Hamilton and perhaps he not making the jump too willingly. I'm sure Bernie's little freudian slip on "Schumacher won't be with us..." was due to him engineering the whole commercial side of these moves.

Which also cast s some light on how much freedom do the drivers actually have...?

i don't know but next year in MotoGP Yamaha could have 2 different sponsors covers ... one for Valentino (with his sponsors and team sponsors) and one for Lorenzo. Because there is same situation .... Rossi is sponsored by Monster and Lorenzo by ROCKSTAR. Will be nice to see MGP with 2 different sponsor equip

only reason why Perez was bring to McLaren is Carlos Slim wealth ... they need money and Sergio is the perfect guy ... nobody have more than him (sponsors) now in F1. And now Sauber need moneys and Michael is another big fish :D

Maybe McLaren can win the WCC. They can forget WDC.

I feel they can compete for both titles. If Button and Perez have similar requirements from the car and Perez shows the same consistency he has over the last two years, I have him down for a maiden win nxt year.
Button won't as distracted since he will be team leader even if its not in his contract. He has had some o fhis best performances when he has in this situation if pretty dog awful cars as well as the BGP001.

I don't think McLaren will miss Lewis too much, but maybe thats just me

It´s not over yet. Hamilton has the car to take this title.
It´s up to Mclaren to not interfere with it like they have done all season.

They're not going to miss Lewis. I think this is indicative of Telmex branding for McLaren in future. If not next year, 2014.

South America still has a fairly strong economy with plenty of corps looking for ways to expand their global appeal.

Good move by McLaren.

Martin is full of bs. They could have been leading both championships. He's not the right man for Mclaren.

With the latest trend to find South American Money, it is rumoured Hamilton will change his name to "Jesus" (pronounced hay seus) to be more appealing to South American sponsors. South America is considered an important market for Mercedes...
this is in light of the Davidson seconds he brings to Mercedes competitiveness
