RB20 speculation

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Last year it was noted that RB appeared to shrink the roll hoop inlet. This year it seems to have grown again?

I think so yes. And more square too. Perhaps this allows the cooling inlets on the sidepods to be smaller.

Looks about the same size to me but it's more square shaped

Is it the RB20?
Rb19. This pic and others taken at same time were already seen on 12th Feb online. They had the rb19 at Silverstone to film a 'goodbye' video to the most successful car in history
Thanks.

Still looks rather small to me. Perhaps larger than last season but smaller than AMR.

Why would RB drop the path they have been following for 2 years and adopt the Mercedes overbite/midwing? The inlet will be on top, following the path of the last 2 years, moving it futher and futher upwards. In these crappy pictures it is obscured by the mirror and mirror mount. The NACA duct style inlet is between the mirror and cockpit edge. It is the biggest underbite ever.

RB did not carry the RB18 philosophy into the RB19 by choice. They were compelled because they had so little windtunnel time. That's why the RB19 was so similar.

This "concept" or whatever it is we are seeing has to be their platform for the next 2 years and was there one chance to work in any big changes to this era of car that the RB19 could not utilize. That may be why they have shifted slightly, because there is more potential. I do find it ironic that Adrian Newey was concerned about having been too conservative when there are clearly several significant detail changes.

Except as I recall cooling solutions do not count towards ATR, which is why they kept upgrading that last season.

I would agree with Marcel that it makes no sense to diverge from the path they've been on and kept reiterating on last season. But doesn't look like there's a top side inlet.

They had less WT time for the RB20. They are still 1st in the WCCC and the penalty was mostly served in 2023. So more effect on the 2024 car than on the 2023 car. Don't forget CFD an WT development are months ahead of building the parts.

They've moved the SIS tube to where Merc had it last year. That much is obvious

It's not the case, because RB deliberately borrowed time from the RB19 to spend on the RB20 once they discovered their enormous advantage in Bahrain last year.
