Didn't they say they'd use the third day to test the car's limit with extreme setups? I think the picture won't look as bad as it appears now

Well the weather is way cooler than usually in F1 weekends, maybe they just can't get the tyre temperatures into optimal window. Or just experimenting with extreme setups, to find the limit of the car. That's what testing is for.
This is just wishful thinking.
All the great cars that I remember from earlier Mercs, RedBulls, Ferraris even Brawn, just went through the test program with calm confidence and then scooped the WCC. There was never real need for "experimenting" and "extreme setups". It is not a thing. However, I saw these kinds of explanations a million times for teams that were actually struggling, just trying to hide/explain it.

I'm not saying that RB is doomed, it is way too early to draw any conclusion on that, I still believe that Max has a chance to win it.
However, a nervous car is a bad sign, period. No need to overthink it.

Car seems quite good in low speed today

One lap he has a lot of understeer and snaps, the next one he sets fastest lap. Happened twice already. Seems like they are testing.

I do agree that in 2022 and 2023 we didn't see this extreme behaviour, also not in 2024.

Now in 2025, we are reaching the aerodynamic limits of these regulations, so this behavior is normal when experimenting with setups. As long as instability isn't persistent throughout the entire day, there's no need to worry. The car looked stable on the quick lap.

I didn't see testing today. Why did RedBull had such low number of laps?

Generally get the feeling RB is keeping its cards close to the chest. No proper race sims, never turning up the engine on the stints, looking heavy on the short runs. Still, there was glimpses of pace here and there that were only matched or exceeded by McLaren as far as I can tell.

It's Marko but here you go
redbull is doing] good. but mclaren is on the same level. they drove with harder tires and more weight. but our long run on wednesday was also very good.”

“the wing still needs to be refined. so i want to see some fine-tuning first, but in principle it worked properly. it’s a test, so you try out parts. the whole package works.”

So status quo it is if I can read Marko's statement? Lando vs Max part 2?

Well not quite, because RedBull ended the 2024 season a step down on both McLaren and Ferrari. So if they're on pace to win races again, they actually would have improved substantially.

So, who do you expect to be McL's closest competitor. Red Bull or Ferrari or Mercedes.
I was hoping for a Lando vs Max part 2 but oh well...

On Wednesday, Max Verstappen stated that the brand new RB21 felt a lot better than last year's car. On Friday, when he was in action all day, he was somewhat less enthusiastic.
at Red Bull they were clearly less enthusiastic than the days before, which of course does not automatically mean that the car is not going anywhere. But no matter which bright head at Red Bull you asked at the Bahrain International Circuit, no one dared to shout from the rooftops that the road to the top has been set

It's not good or bad per se, just preference. Teams control all the parameters and can simulate any part of the race without running the entire race, some just like to do a race sim. RB obviously haven't and have chosen to run several stints at different times with varying fuel loads. More confusing for us but the same end result for them.

To me over the years there's been one specific part of testing that seems most important; total number of laps.
Having the least amount of laps over all teams worries me more than anything.
