Question is, will this spokes cool the tire because of the air that goes besides the brake assembly, or heat the tire because of the brakes. What is desired this year? Normally cooling.

I don't think there will be any damping effect, since pressure would equalize all over the tyre very quickly. The only advantage I can imagine is more heat capacity (due to more air mass) which can delay 'deg' of the core by a few laps.
The "extra" air mass in that little spoke pocket has got to be like 10-20g, completely irrelevant as far as heat capacity goes.

The spokes could provide extra surface area for heat transfer.

what do you think is going to be the air mass enclosed between a 'regular' rim and tyre ?

Has anyone figured out how the extra little winglets on the rear wing tips are legal yet?

From a very quick calculation, around 240g?

The tyre itself and the rim weighs like 20kg, that's why I think the heat capacity of the air is not really meaningful.

Lol... FIA says you can put the regulation box for the "rear wing brackets" where you want almost. So Mercedes puts it on top of the rear wing outside the rear wing regulation box.

Is that ballast on the under/rearside of the "gearbox"?
I think maybe jacking point.. but coukd easily be ballast too.

I don't know how what a ballast looks like, but that definitely isn't a "jacking point" - that will be on the crash structure, even if present (which it isn't). In this pic we can see that the floor itself isn't attached (=> that 'brick' will be the place where a part of the diffuser (that is an extension of the floor) will come).
So, it's either ballast or 'I don't know'.

Looks like ballast, as jacking point needn't be anything like that cross section to effect a facilty like that.

Conventionally its tungsten used for ballast, but that would be a big chunk if made in that material.

Probably to stop the harmonic effects they're experiencing over at AMR

Thanks! This is pretty funny really. I assume other teams will do the same.

Hollow wheel spokes

As mentioned by me previously here, it increases the volume of air that the tyre ‘sees’, reducing the pressure change during compression of the tyre and provides a cooling/temperature control element for the tyre. These are big spokes!!
