i was excited thinking it was silverstone next race, but we have austria first. Lance normally goes well at that trick since its a pretty simplistic one. another points finish would be nice.

What do we think in regards to silverstone updates. front suspension has been mentioned, do we think stuff to do with floor, floor edge are applicable as well?

Aston Martin has lured one of Adrian Newey’s former Red Bull lieutenants back to Formula 1 to help drive forward its simulation tools.

The Race can reveal that Giles Wood, who worked closely with Newey as he headed up Red Bull’s simulation and analysis department during its golden era of success with Sebastian Vettel, has been convinced to return to F1 after a recent spell working with Apple on autonomous technologies.

Wood has joined Aston Martin as its simulation and vehicle modelling director, and will play a critical role in delivering improvements to an area of performance that Newey has singled out as lacking right now.
...
Alongside the efforts to improve its simulation tools, Aston Martin has been on a recruitment drive to bolster areas where it feels it is behind the opposition – including in its aerodynamics department.

And that has also included the appointment of Gioacchino 'Jack' Vino as its new chief aerodynamicist.

Vino started his career as an aerodynamicist at Toyota and then Red Bull before a brief spell at Renault. He then moved to Mercedes in January 2012 as a senior aerodynamicist, before moving up the ranks to become chief aerodynamicist there.

He eventually left the team in November 2024, and officially started in his new role at Aston Martin in April.

This was a my big concern with Krack leading the team. Does he even know who to recruit considering his lack of experience in F1. And if not him then who was leading the recruitment drive? I think Stella made the difference for Mclaren and hopefully Newey could do the same in terms of getting the right people in.
Krack only led the team in name only. He was never really the TD. So I'm not sure why that was ever a concern. He's only ever done what he is doing now. It was pretty obvious that Lawrence was calling THOSE shots back then.

Mtl isn't complicated either but he screwed that up.
My understanding was the suspension was later in the year. The next upgrade was the last for pure performance of the amr25. My guess is that they're going to further refine the same areas. That is the diffuser, floor, floor fences, floor entry, etc. Build on what they've learned from the last update.

Expecting big jump with Silverstone upgrades, maybe a rare podium for Alonso this year.

I highly doubt that Stroll has anything to do with engineers signing, he may nod off the signings. It’s rather Whitmarsh before and Cowell now, advised from Newey, who is making the shots.

And that was the concern. He needed some seasoned paddock people to make the hiring decisions. Somebody who knows the behind the scenes contributions well across teams. I think Whitmarsh was supposed to be that guy but his reputation is a bit shaky so not a surprise that they have had such mixed results with a up and down trajectory.

The plan was never 2024, it was always 2026. Before that it was finish the buildings mode. That was Whitmarsh's job and why he left when he did and bring in Cowell. Krack was TD cause they needed someone to do the work he is doing and needed a face, which Lawrence didn't want to do on the day to day. Krack was always a bridge to 2026.The team (at the time Fallows and the French Aero guy Eric B, Krack, etc) decided on who they wanted and Lawrence went after them. I think Cowell was always sitting on the side line waiting for Whitmarsh to retire. Cowell said he wanted a break when he retired from Merc. Cowell and Whitmarsh are friends and I felt that Cowell replacing Whitmarsh was planned for a while. The Cardille and Newey stuff sounds like it was all Lawrence. My Guess is Cardille was the guy Lawrence picked to be the real TD and Newey was cause Fallows, in Lawrence's eyes, didn't work out.

I think we already have too many new people and things. And it also seems to me that the most important thing is to organize, study, understand, and fine-tune everything to make the most of it.

The next race is Austria, and right now I imagine it will be a tough one for us: if -as I suspect- in Canada ALO was able to ride in the front group thanks to HAM, taking advantage of his slipstream. The straights at RBRing could make us a mess. Because it seems to me the car isn't fast enough in clean air. And it's not a marvel in the corners either.

The only advantage I can see is that they are able to improve the setup and prepare well for the next race: Silverstone. Where we should supposedly see clear progress, as long as the base of the car isn't so disastrous that it can't be improved. This would be the worst.

I'd settle for 8th for ALO and 12th for STR in Austria.

I would agree, barring any retirements in the top 4.

I think the initial team was setup with the goal to win with them within a timeframe of 5 years. By all accounts, Lawrence offered generous pay raises to all big recruits. I dont think anyone was a bridge hire.

I think the Newey situation was either complete happenstance with the Red Bull in fighting or Lawrence really upped the pursuit after the setbacks with the initial team. And once he was coming on board, Whitmarsh had to go. I would really like to know how (who all were involved) AM decided to hire Fallows, Blandin, etc.
