fwa2500 wrote:just got back from qualifying a little while ago, and man was that good : i was up in the stands by T13 during quali today and i must say, this is a HUGE improvement over last years format......and its fun to watch ;) (did you see the start of the last period??!?!! :P man was that nuts!)

congrats to Ferrari for an all red front row!!!

anyone else there?

(i have a couple short video clips ill upload somewhere eventually....along with several pics that need to be cropped)

really looking foward to tomorrow :D we are leaving really early so we can get a parking spot closer than 2 miles away this time, so i probly need to get to bed.....hope to see someone there tomorrow

oh, i also got two free tyres......they had a huge stack of used race tyres from the formula BMW's with a sign "Take Me Home - FREE TYRES" on it....i took the first one, an almost new looking slick....and then feeling selfish, i went back and grabbed another later on, the last one....a rather spent looking wet tyre..........now i just need to figure out what the hell im going to do with two used non-matching Michelin racing tyres...... :x

(off topic: NOOOOO!!!!! how can Brazil loose to France??!!?!! there goes my vision of an epic Brazil-Germany final..... )

I am just getting back to my Hotel room. It was an OK race. I thought Canada was better. I did take lots of pics and many close up pics in the garage at Indy that I will post when I get back to Cali. In alot off ways after that first lap crash, it really deflated my sails. I did not get to see the Mclarens go in race conditions. Qualifing was cool by friday was a waste of a day. Thursday was worth the trip alone though as the access was very good to get close ups with teams and drivers.

I was sorry to see McLaren not race too, but goooooo Montoya  Glad Heidfeld was okay. (everyone was saying he rolled three times on ITV but it looked more like four to me) definitely the accident of the year. What happened to J.V? I had to nip out and missed ten minutes. From the angle of his parking it looked like his engine popped and his rears seized?Seriously, where was the Champ though?! We saw the Alonso train instead of the Trulli train! Schuey and Ferrari looked really fired up for this one... all the way to the podium! Hopefully... just hopefully we might have a championship on our hands.

I rally enjoyed that actually, Villenurve did exactly as you said, it was 3 flips for Heidfeld and Coulthard got 2 points from 17th!!!

My fantasy GP can't have done badly though with Roseburg coming from last!

Well I'm off to Corfu for a fortnight, I'll try and get here whenever possible,
Ciao.

On a side note, the ferrari had the best sounding engines out their. The renaults were there as well as the BMW. The Mclaren actually sounded the weakest. The Cosworth was up there as well.

What is meant by "best"?

Renaults engine sounds smoothest, not many miss-fires thou and smooth sound during gear changes.

Ferrari quite rough, big-miss fires during down-shifts sounds great.

McLaren, yeh... wierd got feelings it's gonna break in piceces

What a crappy GP (on TV, at least). Barely more cars finished than last year's. Montoya behaved like a moron.

I thought the Honda was the most discernable. I defiently had the most "agressive" sound. Kinda like comparing the sound of a big block vs. a small block. More of a throaty sound.. Kinda.

Either way, great weekend. Except for missing Quali due to the STUPID time change thing Indiana has got going on.

FWA2500, were you in the Indy hall of fame during the Porche cup race on saturday? If so I think I bumped into you in front of the Stewart Ford display.
All I know is I don't know much....

Yea, that Honda sounded good. One thing I noticed is that the Honda had the largest header / tail pipe. It was noticablly the largest from what the eye could see. The ferrari sounded like it was reving the highest to me. I have never seen telemetry on the ferrari.

What terrible television coverage! I don't know why on Earth someone thought it necessary to continuously cover Liuzzi. The first sustained shots of the leaders didn't really come until there were 13 laps to go. I was really disappointed by that.

And as such, I really don't know what went on with the race. I'm happy with the results, but was it as boring for anyone else as it was for me?

I'm glad that Heifeld was not hurt during his barrell roll. Here's what he said.
“I escaped unhurt from the accident. I don't know exactly what happened. It looks as if there was another accident before this. I had a very good start, and had already made up three positions so was almost next to Jacques. Then all of a sudden I was airborne. It is such a shame as we have been really strong here.”
 Really I gotta tell you, this the worst track of the season. Always having most accidents(more than Monaco  ). Great race for Liuzzi to score 1 point for the STR team. Certainly not Alonso's day in Indy.... .

Anyone know why Renault ran their full-branded livery and Ferrari did not?

Seems curious because Marlboro Team Penske have been running full-branded in the IRL all year, even at the Indianapolis 500.

As a Smokes sponsor you can only be visible in one event.

Marlboro chose IRL.

In Canada - Renault fastest / Ferrari highest top speed

In USA - Ferrari fastest / Renault highest top speed

:?

This GP looked like inverted Canadian GP when it matters performance.

My overall impression is that result of the race was deiced by tyres only.
BTW, did Schuey and Massa use new engines or was it their second race?

Also, did anyone notice that Cosworth V10 (STR Liuzzi) had highest speed in apex 11, almost 10 kph faster than runner up? (torque  )

I would'nt take Indianapolis as a good place to compare the top speeds of Renault and Ferrari. Not only the difference was minimal (1-3 KPH) but the 2 different characteristics of the outfield and infield sections of the track make the engineers do differrent compromises. As a proof, MS was the one with the greatest top speed in both the 1st and 2nd sectors.
