A statement issued on behalf of the team and oil company on Monday said: “Petronas and Mercedes have been partners since 2010 in a collaborative long-term relationship that is mutually beneficial to both parties.

The deal between Mercedes and Petronas has been extended several times and it is understood that its current contract, which was signed back in 2019, runs until the end of 2025.

“Last year, we extended our partnership for another multi-year cycle and we are proud to continue to be working together to deliver cutting-edge performance.”

I have to say regardless of the motivation for it, the black cars looked pretty cool and I’ve gotten pretty used to it.

However the switch back to grey will make it much easier to distinguish between the MB, AT and AM cars next season.

Its probably just the FIA model. Looks too simple for any of it to be the actual car

It's definitely one of the FOM models but they photoshoped a different nose tip on.

The FOM F1 2022 show car has several renders and a couple of physical versions (showcars and windtunnel) with small differences. (some have front pull rods, some have push rods, some have different sidepod lips, nose tip, inboard turning vanes on the wheels etc.

Some people on YouTube were speculating that the car Mercedes’ fired up, was included in a shot of footage from their media channel a week ago. The shot in question included two cars, suggesting the one on the left was fired up. Anyway, I extracted a high quality image from that shot of the car in the dark, and did a little editing to extract any detail I could.

Do you think it’s the ‘22 car / engine that Mercedes’ are flirting with us here in this image? Or is it just a ‘21 car? The wing and wheels are obvious ‘21 spec, but what about the chassis?
