Doesn't matter how small either is, still not as cheap as doing 1
It's all about the sponsors. They pay a lot of money to have their names on the cars, so if it means doubling up it will sure as hell keep them happy.
But can't they wait and see the new car at the same time - no other sponsors are requesting it lol

Obviously Mercedes want to have a proper day in Stuttgart for the livery launch after 60 years without a works team. On the other hand you don't want to shorten the development time for the engineers. From that point it makes a lot of sense. The most expensive will always be the time and expenses of the people who are present. So launching the works team in Stuttgart with all the Merc suits and rolling the car out for the first test makes sense. They will have very few engineers and team members in Stuttgart. Perhaps Brawn and Fry, not that anybody in Brackley will miss Fry not at work.

Agreed.

I expect Stuttgart will have gloss, glamour and interviews with press. In contrast, Valencia will have mechanics, oily overalls, and minimal press distraction.

I've also noticed that the teams seem much more secretive about their launches this year. Merc will use the 09 car, another team have said they'd have the 09 wings at the launch.

Are they all hiding a secret weapon, or are they just being wary after last year's DDD unheaval?

Seemingly the Mercedes GP Team Launch is where they launch" the team officially and show off their branding and such. Same effect as Ferarri with the skiing trip thing to show off Alonso in red and the same as what McLaren did with Button on New Years Day pics.

Its for Marketing and demonstration purposes only.

Also watch out for Schumacher, Rosberg and Heidfeld to show off new helmet designs for the 2010 season, and them in their new overalls.

Rosberg is getting a new helmet? i thought only Schumi was switching.. :? i'd be pretty disappointed if Nico sold-out his family helmet just for the sake of corporate identity. Has there been any mention of a change of helmet for him?

or do you just mean his (and Nick's if he is confirmed) helmets with a new sponsorship band + sponsors?

That would be a nice basic livery.

Basic, simple and un cimplicated, i like.

Ive always thought that the simple designs stand out better on TV than the complicated ones. Take last year for Alonso and Piquet, both were too similar to each other and the cars livery as well.

Best helmet for the livery lasy tear was Hamilton and Kubica. Diffrent colours to the car livery to stand out.
