Ferrari SF-26

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Changes to the car
from @FulvioVigilante on X
#Ferrari has modified the terminal part of the narrower engine hood and opened two more vents, and it's also clear how the profile on the gearbox placed after the exhaust is truly structural.

I am impressed by the size of the cooling outlets compared to the competition. The Ferrari PU typically required a lot more cooling in the last engine reg cycle. If this trend holds then they've made a huge jump in ICE efficiency. Thank you to AR3-GP for the image

Can this be copied by others before Race 1?
No.

"Engineers are permitted to position an aerodynamic device in that area of the car, provided it does not exceed a distance of 60 millimeters from the half-shaft (or driveshaft). Typically, this constraint prevents the device from extending beyond the tip of the exhaust; however, the Maranello engineers managed to bypass this hurdle by shifting the differential to the furthest possible rearward position
Is the Haas gearbox the same, ie could they run this?

Watching the broadcast, that wing looks incredibly close to the exit. Would it be possible the intent is something involving backpressure with the turbo exhaust? It almost looks inefficient from a downforce perspective. Wonder if this is anything to do with Ferrari's approach to their turbo management

It comes down to positioning rather than gearbox shape. The Ferrari differential is pushed back to allow this device, and that is something that would require such an amount of re-engineering that teams would be altering their aerodynamic concepts.

In a costcap world, it now becomes a big question of whether or not it's worth investing those resources for what could be minimal gains

I have read in other places that its legality is being questioned. What is the general consensus here? I trust this forum more than most places

It doesn't for me, the host he uses must be region-blocked.

For me it just loads the same placeholder, upgrade-prompt image.
