After Max came onto this new set he got a radio message "bring these inters up to temperature carefully". Maybe Hamilton pushed too hard on the outlap?

The team didn’t leave him any choice but to, seen as they cost him two positions he needed to get back.

That could be true, but Hamilton didn't have a chance to bring them up slowly without being overtaken.

Everyone was slower on the new inters after the first lap as they just started graining. Once through the graining phase, everyone gained lots of pace. It was a just a straight forward bad call by the team as it was too late in the race after everyone else had gone through the pain.

I know sometimes the strategists and the sims see things we don’t from our armchairs, but I’ve no idea what they were thinkin today. Even if they’d left him out he’d have finished no lower at the very worst.

Hamilton stiff aside, Bottas has driven perfectly today and fully deserves this win. Hamilton engine penalty or not, he had a job to do today and he's not put a foot wrong.

Yes- and Sainz. Cracking job by him as well.

Yes, but if would have not pushed as hard then he wouldn't have grained them. Max didn't grain his. On balance it could have been faster for Hamilton to go 0.5s slower on the first lap.

Great drive by Bottas. Solid drive by Max in a car that appeared to be a bit wounded at this track. Unlucky for Leclerc and Hamilton as their teams brought them in too late. Hamilton had done a great job getting up to third and was obviously happy with the tyres. Ah well, on to the next race.

Max had space to do it. He wasn't dropped back in to a battle. This isn't about Hamilton messing up, it was the strategy team believing the computer over the driver in conditions where the driver knows what the car is doing.

Wow, a pleasant surprise from Bottas for once, when it really matters. Great job. Merc dropping the ball immensely with Hamilton though. Could be crucial in the end.

So had Hamilton not pitted, he would've finished third wouldn't he.
