I'm loving the quick reply boxes. Getting frustrated when a thread does not have one!

It also has the advantage of people not quoting very long posts or large pics again and again. My scroll wheel is getting worn out!

Have a look at rules and practises of Autosport forums and the house rules for the race comment forum.

Just added a couple of minor changes:
- Added quick reply to the race threads
- Prevent off-topic chat posts from appearing on site homepage

If off-topic chat posts don't come up on site homepage, how will people know if any post is made in any of its threads?? They will have to go to off-topic posts section to find out.....

Inconvenience?

Correct. I believe (and it's been requested like that as well) that they draw too much attention sometimes. If you are a well known member, you know where to look, it's just another click, but for newbies the off-topic threads probably don't matter.

I'm not entirely sure, but I also think that off-topic threads will also not pop up in the "view latest topics" page.

Also, if you are particularly interested in a thread, you can bookmark it or subscribe, so that you get an email when a new post is made.

Thanks for the quick reply.

As for the homepage, I have the "new posts" search as my bookmark for this site. I never look at the forum home page unless I'm starting a new thread.

I would love to see the pictures appearing in the development threads being shifted
to the gallery as well as quite often it is very hard to retrieve pics ...with 100+
pages to go through..

Re: What would you add to F1technical?

I love the site and spend a lot of time on it. Some ideas ..

The similar posts list at the bottom of a topic is irrelevant as it lists the OLDEST posts that match up on a search. It should match the NEWEST posts.

It would be nice of the thread name was at the bottom of the last post. Why? Because you click a few recent post replies from the home page or wherever and then have to scroll to the top to see what topic it is. BTW, It is that way on the "post a reply" page, just not the postings pages.

What I would REALLY like to see to see is a vote button on posts so instead of posting your agreement or disagreement for a particular point of view you could just click agree or disagree. It would conceivably shorten the threads and invite more participation.

Lastly I would like to see dedicated official car threads that require a level of grade to post in OR where you would submit a post for approval before it displays. The mods would have complete control over the initial postings those threads. Other threads could remain as usual but the car threads should have a level of order about them. It would of course increase the mods jobs but they seem to relish in the moderator jobs at the moment. I'm not sure how well this would be received though. someone could easily create an unofficial car thread though or maybe everyone posts to the unofficial thread and then mods copy good posts to the official thread.

Thanks again for a great site that I use every day.

Embedded youtube videos in threads are hit and miss in Chrome. If I right click the video, the flash menu appears at the top of my screen.

Occasionally they work, but not often. Apparently form my googling you might need to install the new youtube widget or something.

Cheers.

How about to use real Driver names?
Things like
pastit,brittney,the boss,bulk,bob,wunderkind,hamster etc.
don't really belong to F1technical, do they...

In my opinion it should be no problem to use the real names or at least the FOM abbreviations like HAM,BUT etc. [-o<

I take that in .

I would add a driver bashing ban to f1technical .So any comment attacking drivers in distasteful or humilating ways should be kicked out or shifted to more appropriate forums by our poor mods ..

When mods delete some post they can at least send the user a private message so that you know it got deleted, why it got deleted and most important you must know which mod deleted it. ****

Reason: The posts missing here only got split off into their own thread.

IIRC this thread is about what one would like to be added in regards to the site, as in a new section, new content, new format, etc. Not about what members post, we can't control that.

Sorry I thought it would be also "How we can improve F1technical"...
I got used to it, but new members will have troubles sometimes to know who is meant.

Re: What would you add to F1technical?

I have a small suggestion/request with regards to the F1T facebook page. I think having the page there is great, and I enjoy seeing reminders about articles on the actual F1T site (I usually forgot to check those) and the other technical content that is shared there (e.g. Renault's vehicle testing videos). However, whenever a grand prix is finished, I've found the race results are posted before I even get a chance to watch it. The race results for the German GP were shown before the race even aired in the U.S. (I'm referring to eastern time zone) yesterday.

At the moment, I've had to hide F1T's posts to avoid any future spoiler alerts, but then I'm also missing any other interesting technical posts that are made. Perhaps a compromise can be met? In the future, would it be possible to have a less descriptive title such as "The German GP is in the books..." and then link to an article on this site, rather than "Alonso wins German GP!"? Or maybe just wait until the North American market has a chance to see the race before a post is made?

I understand the facebook page is a minor element of this site, but I'm already having to avoid this and all other racing news sites before I view the race. If I don't have to, I'd like to not have to avoid randomly checking facebook on a Sunday morning as well. Otherwise, thank you for everything you do... this really is a wonderful site.
