Excited for some pit lane snippets today, most interested in the new brake assemblies and the front strake config.

I hope they have come up with something clever in the front strakes too.

At the moment, RedBull is the only team which has used the strakes for more than they were intended.

That should cut down on some weight and hopefully bring a nice performance gain.

That would be huge, but there's no way of confirming it without hitting the track.

Also, that 0.5 number lacks reference. Depending on the reference it could be anything from right behind RB/Ferrari to about the same level as Mercedes.

keep in mind the number is also relative to the others' progress.
If we do actually gain 0.5 but others gain say 0.6 or more, we would be behind the others (I hope not).

Fingers crossed for 0.5 second gains over everyone and hoping Spain will bring the fans of Mclaren smiles.

I’m just interested to see the car tomorrow and spot the details!

Forgetting the other upgrades, do we expect this brake solution to be worth lap time/tyre management on its own?

I'm sure there is some benefit, or else they wouldn't bring any changes, but the switch to the carbon solution compared to the last-minute titanium one they've run would suggest there are probably weight savings, which never hurts.

Some drivers are very sensitive to brake feel; and with changes to the cooling setup (as well as any other material changes or things we can't see inside as of yet) there is potential for this to be quite a huge change. I'm not going to say they are magically going to end up with a car than can pull off 2014-2018 Red Bull/Ricciardo divebombs, but brakes are an area where you can make up lap time both through technical gains (thermal management, weight, etc.) and also just pure driver confidence.

So to answer your question, yes, I think this will provide a lap time benefit.
