Being a 2nd driver for Alonso is game over for you pretty much, you can read how hard it is to work with him unless you work for him just like the whole team does right now. Vandoorne is currently not racing Alonso, he is racing for Alonso which not only means strategy but as well as mechanical setup, parts, quality of the car and so on. It's way too obvious on screen if you watch the race anyway, there is a clear line between driver's skills and then there is a clear difference on screen how Alsonso's car behaves and how Stoffel's car behaves.

Anyway I feel really bad for Alonso as he is the driver who has guts and mad skillz to surpass or match Schumi's record but everything went downhill after he left McLaren for the first time. Had he stayed he would have found himself in a much better place but instead it has been controversy after controversy surrounding him after he had left. It's a shame he has burnt that Honda bridge as that's most likely THE reason why RBR will not touch him for the next season. If anyone was going to park that next year RBR Honda car on the middle step of the podium that would have been Alonso. I don't give Max any chances at all let alone Gasly.
