Operationally they did everything right, and Max ofcourse brought the car home in a much better position than I expected. Well done.
Everything was world championship class except for the car today.

Ver's overtake on Norris at the start probably cost Norris the race and 2nd place (and allowed Ver to extend the championship lead). Then Ver's call to go to inters before the rest saved him more seconds of race time (compare to the call some others made...). Ver never went out of the track like the others did. Finally Red Bull putting him on the hard tire on the right lap at the end gave him the position over Norris. If there had been a safety car, they would have won.

It wasn't a win today, but days like to today allow you to admire the various aspects of the team. If they had started on pole and driven away, people wouldn't appreciate it.

Frederico Albano just wrote a pure truth sentence: Red Bull is winning this title more through men rather than engineers.

Agree- the champion calls were made by RBR and Max today- he had no right to finish second so you have to applaud him.

In hindsight Verstappen drove the best race he could, he stayed calm under pressure, didnt make any mistakes, made the right strategy calls within the car and just took what was available to him as a result of those good decisions. At some point mid-race even Sainz was putting pressure on him but in the end the difference between them was a whopping 46s in Verstappen's favour.

In the dry early part of the race Max was slowest of the top 5 by 2-4 tenths per lap. In the wet it was more like 5 tenths per lap. On inters 5 tenths again. And only in the final stint was the car alive, but even then Oscar was fastest still.

If there weren't multiple decisions to be made about tyres and when to pit for inters, he would've finished 20-30s back in p5/p6

You're trying to make a positive spin out of a woeful car performance. Horner is doing the same it seems to be an "everything is fine" approach when quite clearly it isn't.

Quite a strange performance today. Nowhere in the first stint in dry, picks up pace in wet and then fastest in third stint. Seems like they moved the balance to work in late race. I thought it should have been an easy race for Max today after the floor change.

You can't win championships with a car that only works for 1 stint each race

well Sparky68 was right, they fixed the car for the last stint, except that it was awful the first two :D

jokes aside, Budapest upgrade better be substantial because this is not great show, even though Max and the team are incredibly increasing the lead in championship

Don't know why people are talking about pace in the last stint. The car was behind on every tyre, the reason Max was faster in the end is because he was on tyres two steps harder on an abrasive circuit against softs.
