Interesting to see. What is great is that our pace in the race is much better.

I'd be happier if we could make the car faster over one lap more than anything else as race pace is fairly strong. Being ahead of the midfield and in behind Red Bull would alter our racing outlooks quite a lot.
Sainz probably would've qualified 1 or 2 places higher if not for the yellow flag. His Q2 time was only a tenth down on Norris' Q3 time.
orange car whit Alonso behind the wheel would be on par whit Crashstapen.
hahahahahaha that's the best joke ever .... and stop calling VERstappen Crasstapen, because you are insulting a person who isn't here to defend himself and i can show you loads of videos where Alonso made mistakes himself

and your adoring towards Alonso is gettin annoying, not only with me, but with others aswell, so start participatig as a normal user and not as a Alonso-Groupie with drewl on the sides of his mouth when he sees a pic of Alonso.... (wanted to write something else but that would be 18+ material)

*sorry mods needed to get it of my chest, back to normal

I dont think alonso would be on a par with Max in a mclaren- even though alonso is very good- just as max is very good. The RB is still a bit ahead.
You seem to want to defend max ‘because he isnt here’ but you seem very willing to crticise the person who posted the comment and describe him in demeaning words.
Unecessary, you are free to dissagree with ideas presented but not to then throw it back yourself.
It is true max did used to have a habit of crashing- the co-incidence with his name is just lite humor.

These max comments are a bit irrelevant aren’t they?

With Racing Point just 1 point behind and still using their last year spec car they look set to overtake McLaren Renault next race when RPs real 2019 package arrives in Barcelona.
It's Stroll funding vs Latifi funding, and Perez' remarks on Lawrence Strolls commitment and energy make it obvious the team is on a upward trajectory and have 4th place in their sights and within reach. I'm sure Perez is keen to overtake McLaren too. Now the pressure is on for who brings the best package upgrades.
For all we know RP's new package will not work and McLaren's new package will or Vise versa. It wouldn't be the first time. So wait and see. Don't spout out Grandiose expectations when you, like the rest of us, really have no clue how it's gonna play out.
Exactly what was is so Grandiose about RP aiming for 4th in the Constructors Championship? It is where they finished in 2017, and should have been about the same if the team didn't have their points wiped out in 2018. #-o

I never said I had a clue how it is going to play out. I simply said RP look set to overtake McLaren which means they are readying and preparing to beat McLaren with their real car. Don't be so sensitive and threatened sheez.

To be fair circuits like Baku & Spa have always suited their design philosophy so it's unlikely they'll jump Mclaren in Spain which is historically their strong track and where the Renault upgrade should allow higher engine modes as well. As for the 4th WCC spot, they're a very well organized team who've done well for themselves over the years with what they have, but I'd be surprised if they can keep up with the pace the MTC can churn out development parts.

You obviously have valid points, however, the part I don't understand is your reference to RP's real car. It was only at preseason they showed up with a modified 2018 car to accommodate the 2019 rules. They turned up in Melbourne with their 2019 car. They'll simply bring an updated car in Barcelona, as most of the grid will.
There are articles, which I'm sure you can find in the RP thread or online highlighting the extent of their heavily updated car that was brought to race one. McLaren have so far haven't had much done on the car since preseason, a few tweaks here and there and bargeboards updated. So it's not impossible that McLaren will have a more substantial upgrade than RP.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

I believe he's referring to this article:

"The updates that we've put on, we're getting closer to optimising them," Green told Autosport.

"The Bahrain test helped us a lot to understand where the sweet spot of the car is.

"Baku has always been strong for us, and hopefully it will be strong again this year.

"We'll just have a Baku specific downforce kit. And then we've got updates coming thick and fast after that.

"Spain is where things start to happen.

"We're still a long way off where we want to be, that's for sure, and it takes time to build the team up to challenge where we want to be challenging, while other teams have made big steps.

"We've been cash-strapped for many years. It's going to take time to build up the team and move it forward.

"We've just got to be patient."

Max in my opinion is a fantastic driver with a lot of talent that remind me of Senna but he is not complete yet. A driver has to know when to push when there's a gap but also need to know to avoid collisions at all cost as finishing first will give points. I don't know if Alonso would be able to match him in China or Baku with Mclaren as Red Bull still has a chassis advantage but I am pretty sure in an equal car he would beat him because he is simply a complete driver and takes as many points as possible out of every situation while Max risks a collision to get an extra place and sometimes that results in crashes that give 0 points. Perhaps Alonso may be back in F1 the next year if the car shows impressive upgrades and goes to challenge the first 3 in the coming races.

People act like Racing Point is a comparable operation compared to McLaren, but it's not. McLaren should beat them, if they don't, they failed.

Racing point is a well run racing team one of the best.

McLaren is a well run car company that produces technically impressive if (personal view) boring super cars. And has an F1 team.

They are spending money hand over fist to make up for the fact that they transitioned to being a car company and spread out too thin

Racing point only has one goal

thats not how it works - The automotive division has no impact on the racing division. They dont share staff, they dont share facilities( aside from the canteen). The budget for the racing team is dictated by the shareholders and sponsors - the expansion of the automotive division is dictated by investors.

Not sure how relevant any of that is. McLaren racing has 1 goal. Doesn't mean either of them will achieve it nor is there a guarantee that the goals are the same.

I agree RP recent history is very good, no guarantee it will continue. On the other hand McLaren has a storied past, just like their recent history, has little to no impact on their go forward.

I think they both suffer, in comparison to the top 3, in a lack of funding. So from that very relevant stand point they're both behind the 8 ball. We'll see what happens in 2021.

The automotive division is there to support the racing team. McLaren might not have the resources to fight against the top three, but they are still huge compared to Force India. With the leaders that were put in place by Brown they should be able to make more progress than them, if they lose out the development race they simply failed.

Actually, Racing Point aren't using last year spec. They arrived Melbourne with one of, if not the most heavily revised packages from the winter tests, which Checo admitted weren't working as expected initially. If anything, McLaren is much closer to the preseason spec than Racing Point.
I was a little surprised to hear it when it came from Sergio Perez' mouth during F1 interviews (can't remember which broadcast), but he did say 2018 spec and then paused. So I'm pretty sure the RP car is rather vanilla like many teams and Barcelona will give an indication of the pecking order for the mid-season. RP has the luxury of having the MB power-train so for McLaren it will come down to their PU reliability.

It's no surprise that the 3 top teams in F1 are the 3 biggest spenders. McLaren over the years have under achieved even if you base it on how much they spend alone. It's unacceptable for many reasons, not least economically to be out performed by people who consistently and considerably spend less than you do. Bringing someone in like James Key, who is highly rated and has always had budget constraints shows the team want to start spending smart, while spending big compared to the RP's and the likes. Hopefully, if the budget cap comes, then maybe his talents will become more evident compared to the top teams. Imagine what Mercedes spent, bringing effectively 2 different cars to preseason, not to mention what they'll spend on development through out the year.
