I see fans disappointed by Lewis' move, labeling it as "betraying".

I don't see how. He hasn't betrayed, was betrayed. He wasn't given well earned no 1 status alongisde Button. The only time he had clear no 1 status in the team he delivered and won the title. It's McLaren's loss really. They won't be title contenders without him.

as a Hamilton fan, i'm excited by this move. The last time Hamilton had #1 status he won the title. We'll see a totally different Hamilton next year. If i could, i'd put money on him winning the title next year.

Mclaren are big losers in this.

hmmm, interesting. Ham to Merc is not that big surprise, but Perez to McLaren is???? I take it Massa is staying at Ferrari then.... I expected Perez to go to Ferrari from 2013....

I feel this is bad for Formula 1 in general...

McLaren will suffer without the raw talent of Hamilton driving the team forward, just think of all the races Hamilton has won and Button hasn't been second.

Hamilton will suffer, at least initially, with the relatively new Mercedes team who have been plagued with development problems since they entered F1.

Formula 1 suffers on a whole because potentially it's set to become a 2 horse race, Ferrari Vs. Red Bull.

On the plus side, it's good to see Sergio in a top team

Also on the long-term note, this decision has probably been driven (no pun intended) by engines, big changes ahead, McLaren set to be in limbo on the engine front.

So Carlos Slim is paying for the Mercedes engines next year(free thus far) and the money paid to Mercedes, then goes into the Hamilton fund(circa 13 million a year).
Mercedes definitely the winners in all this.

i expect massa to take a pay cut to remain in Ferrari, while Mclaren will be happy to let Lewis go because of cost reason. As for Merc, the are big organization and cost of having lewis will probably be the same as what they are paying Michael at the moment.

With rules changing dramatically, I doubt Lewis is expecting Mercedes will waste money on developing next year's car instead of 2014 car... That said, with this Merc, NOBODY has a chance of winning a title. He'll be making friendships with the team, mechanics, Germany...

Expect Vettel from 2014. onwards... Ferrari wouldn't loose such a talent to McLaren for anyone else than a proven World Champion. What will happen in 2014. and onwards, will Alonso "kick" Vettel out, we'll see. In that case, I see Perez coming in 2015/2016 in Scuderia, possibly with a title of vice-champion...

I think however we will see massa go to Sauber. The question is: who will replace Massa then at Ferrari? If Perez is said to be unexperienced, then you can say the same thing about Hulkenberg and DI Resta. There is not one driver out there that can give Ferrari what it demands. So Ferrari will have to lower its demands.

Montezemolo was pretty clear about Perez. Perez was never a factor. So also not for Massa, who I think still will be dropped. A wild guess: Kobayashi to Ferrari?

Montezemolo was pretty clear about Perez. Perez was never a factor.

Alternatively, it could simply have been that Perez said "I won't be a second driver" and Montezemolo said "well, clearly you're not 'mature' enough then"

Publicly, Sergio may have never been a factor for Ferrari, but McLaren claimed to have "no plan B" ...

For a team with no Plan B, they certainly moved quickly! McLaren must have made Perez an offer that was impossible to refuse! I'd love to see the terms of that contract ...
