Its no secret that Renault engines are the most expensive due to their 4 years WCC track record, so what RBR might be doing is to demand discount instead of claiming them for damage.
I didn't think RB paid anything for their engines due to them being a "works" team.

It seems like Red Bull have tested secretly inbetween the last wintertest and the first race in Bahrein. They had a test for 6 days... Don't know if it is a rumor or not? Just letting you guys know.

It's not illegal to use a rolling road facility, it's just a wind tunnel!

But as i remember they are not alowed to run full size car in "wind" condition. So all air/exhaust inlets&outlets must be run trow hoses like on the dyno. So no AERO measurments. Just normal test rig.

As we could see it is totaly posibble to run it. Kiril is totaly right here.

I dont think it can be classified as full scale wind tunnel testing if you run a car indoors with a fan in front of it.

This is called a chassis dynamometer test and there is nothing in the regulations against it

A challenging start to 2014 has prompted talk in recent weeks that Red Bull could be ready to look at alternatives unless progress was made.

But speaking ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, Red Bull boss Christian Horner said there was no doubt it would remain with Renault for next season at least.

"It is 100 per cent next year we will be powered by a Renault engine," he said.

"We have a multi-year deal with Renault, but as with any agreement there are always performance criteria associated with that.

"But we are not considering any alternatives at this point in time."
Interesting they admit performances clauses, yet also admit to committing to Renault. So what punishment could there be if performance clauses are not met?

Perhaps they will shun Renault people at official Formula One cocktail parties? :wtf:

Maybe. Or maybe Marko wasn't talking crap? Either way at least we all know Renault are around next year.

The clausules allow red bull to, when the engine fail to meet the specified performance targets, to stop their contractual commitments without having to pay for future engines and without paying fines for ending the contract before it expires. These contracts are for multiple years. It wouldn't be advisable for red bull to end the contract in the middle of a season, but if they find a new engine supplier, they can just switch next season without reporcursions, given the escape clausule is in effect.

In practice however, this is rarely done. Usually it means both parties will sit around the table ending up with red bull having to pay a lot less for the future engines and, if a retroactive aspect is agreed, receiving a reimbursement.

Renault are the only option Red Bull have in 2015. After that, they could possibly go Honda, but I don't see Ferrari or Merc willing to sell Red Bull engines if they could hamstring Red Bull by forcing them to stay on Renault.

Does Matt Somers actually know anything? I read some of his posts and it sounds like they're mostly gleaned from his time on this forum.

Matt and I have been discussing the matter on Twitter. While initially none of the teams have responded, I got answers from both Red Bull and STR, probably because I did not accuse them in eating children for breakfast.
Red Bull said: It wasn't us, but the test is legal anyway.
STR said: No comment.

Autobild just ran some 'spicy' bits that the teams have lodged a protest, etc, citing anonymous source, which is, of course, pathetic. And this is how the story faded away with nobody caring about it. Because it was fabricated. The funny thing again was the level of 'journalism' - most F1 tabloid sites quoted the response I've got with no mention at second stage, but continued to re-iterate that Red Bull might be doing illegal stuff, without even knowing the rules. The first stage was: Teams did not respond. Of course, they shouldn't be responding to every rumor that gets created in the calm days between the races.

Certainly, that's my view on it and there might be different angles, but I stick to the facts. For me, the so-called 'story' is closed case.

I find it amusing that Red Bull, now languishing, are still targets of 'cheating' allegations, while Mercedes, who are smashing everyone, simply did a better job. Go figure.
